Cedarhurst Cener for the Arts has excellent traveling exhibits plus a fantastic permanent collection, children's area, and sculpture park. Walk the grounds and trails for a nature break.(always free) Admission is free to the museum on Thursdays, and summer brings music and food vendors for Thursday Night Live. In addition, chamber music concerts are held during the fall-spring season and art classses are held for children and adults all year long.

This historical village was just the right size for an afternoon visit. It was very interesting, educational and a great family destination. Many things to see! The blacksmith shop had a man showing and telling how a nail was made years ago. For a very small donation, he would make a nail for you to take home. The whole village survives on donations. This village is a great preservation of history! It's a must see if in Mt. Vernon!

While in Mt. Vernon, My husband and I drove over to the airport to see the Military museum. Once we entered the airport driveway, There wasn't any signage directing us towards the "Museum". We did find a memorial wall that listed all of the Jefferson County heroes and what looked to be a restaurant/VFW hall, but no signs of anything else for tourists. The place had plenty of people around, but we did not ask any questions and just left. For us, It was a waste of time.

This is a MUST if you are in Mt. Vernon for a bit. I was surprised to find out the courthouse is still a working one. I am sure the employees feel as if they are in a fish bowl, but they do not seem to mind the tourists. The artifacts are amazing and the tour is free. Bring the kids for an educational and historical experience. Stand where Lincoln stood! How many people can say that?

Bookstores have become a rarity and we seek them out when traveling. This one did not disappoint and seems to be doing well. With all book stores a cafe and unique gifts seem to have more real estate in stores than do the books. Although this saddens me King City Books seems to have navigated this well. The books are well curated and although I missed seeing a few favorite authors they have a good selection and I was drawn to buy a book by an author I had not read before because of the thoughtful placement of the book. The staff was very friendly and recommended a good Mexican restaurant within walking distance. (Guero's)
