Ruta CH-60

We drove up to the Argeninian border on this road twice. The first time we did it in a snowstorm and the second in brilliant Sunshine. The views are just breathtaking, but even in the snow it was an experience. Dont miss the lake behind the big hotel at Portillo, its exquisite.

This winery was wonderful. We were fortunate enough to get to blend our own bottles of wine. The tour was interesting and our guide spoke English very well. She was sweet and informative. Their Carmenere is the best that I had during this trip to...MoreThanks for visiting us and for your comments! Hugs and greetings from San Esteban!

Enjoy Santiago

The collection, which includes authentic shrunken heads, at MAdLA, was acquired and curated over decades by founder academic archaeologist Carlos Coros Cantin. I spent a few hours here and learned far more than I expected to. This is a humble, out-of-way establishment in the small town of Los Andes (surrounding by dumbfounding peaks), and is a marvelous excursion out of Santiago. I enjoyed it immensely and believe nearly any visitor with a modicum of curiosity will also.
Although this is a small scale museum, there is absolutely nothing amateurish about it. Sr. Coros has done an amazing job.

Parque Arqueologico Paidahuen

Reviewed By Mrmitosis - East Greenbush, New York, United States

Paidahuen Archaeological Park is a National Monument located in Chile's 5th Region along the northern bank of the Aconcagua River, in the rural town of San Esteban. The top of this isolated hill holds slabs of large rocks adorned with petroglyphs, work of native populations dating from 450 to 1000 years ago.
The park land is "owned" by the Vina San Esteban (Vineyard), makers of In SItu wines, which in itself is well worth a visit. We picked up a brochure about Paidahuen at the vineyard.
After parking one walks along a well marked pathway that slowly winds uphill towards the mountain top. Most of the petroglyphs are found along the path and near the top of the mountain. There is a nice "Los Andes View" rest area at the top. This is not a heavily traveled site, and the walk uphill requires some stamina---but is very doable if one is in halfway decent shape.
One can do the walk in about one hour--but that's if you don't stop and rest at the top which we did (the view is spectacular).
