Picker's Creek Winery

My wife's first cousin's wife's stepfather's brother owns this place - hope you got the connection. We had never heard them talk about it and did not know it existed. My wife's grandmother was celebrating her 94th birthday so there was a celebration for her last Saturday. The talk turned to wine and that is when her cousin suggested we go here after the birthday party. My daughter and son-in-law and our grandson rode with us so they had no choice but to go...plus they probably wanted to go more than we did! There was a total of 8 adults, two children and an infant.

They offer tastings, so we tried pretty much everything they offered - about 10 - 12 wines. Our daughter got Moondance which is new and not even listed on the website - it has become one of their best sellers and we tempered it by ordering the blackberry. Mack's Band was a popular choice as was Guitarzin. All the names are music related. Ina Gadda Di Vino for instance...

There is live music on Saturday night and a fire pit when the temp cooled down. Several picnic tables and a wrap around porch. The entertainment was a Nashville singer/song writer and her guitar playing husband. The first set was just her accompanying herself on the guitar. She has been performing here for over two years. Nice couple. My wife's brother put my daughter and her husband on the spot (they sing) by asking if they could sing a song. She even loaned them her guitar.

We stayed about 4 hours and it was so nice and peaceful - good conversation and remembering times past - good and bad. Pizza was ordered from Domino's. The winery has several cheese selections to choose from as well. Nice gift shop - nothing is over the top - just right! If you don't want to deal with the crowds at Arrington, this is probably 30 minutes further south between Lewisburg and I-65 on Columbia Highway. Check out their website and/or Facebook page for upcoming events.

Worth the trip... This is the perfect place to enjoy something affordable and unique. Whether for a large group or a date night this Drive In is an excellent choice. Get there when the gates open to snag a good parking spot. A large open grassy area up front is a welcome invitation to toss around a football or play a game of tag while waiting for sunset and the movie to begin. Classic tunes fill the night air over car stereos and the smell of concession stand favorites keep you coming back for more. A family favorite for sure!

Higher Pursuits is the best place to enjoy the river in Middle TN. Incredible service. Had a horrid experience at another outfitter the weekend before...took us hours to get in the water due to the trailer traffic, crowds and then they forgot our kayaks on the trailer and had to go back and get them. That wouldn't happen here because it's so well organized and friendly. Not so say they are perfect, because I'm sure mishaps happen, but they go the extra mile to make sure that doesn't happen. You even call the office when you're getting close and they are ready to pick you up- AND you get to borrow a dry box for your phone! Love this place. Call on Monday to make your weekend reservations (no credit card needed). You can even call and cancel your reservations if needed, but make them ahead of time if you plan on a weekend river trip. If you are a fast paddler (like we are...we don't like to just float), take their longest route. PLUS the Duck River water is so clean...lots of natural mussel shells on the shore to prove it! Enjoy and maybe we'll see you there!

Ace always return calls and worked with our schedule. Safety first, first flight was cancelled due to wind. Great information prior to flight. Our early morning flight was beautiful. Bob was our pilot and was very entertaining and funny when he was not concentrating on flighting the ballon. After flight activities where fun and educational. The Ace High Ballooning after flight tradition (which I don't want to give away) was educational, fun and unexpected. You must get up early for the sunrise ride but it is well worth it.
