Mount Hosmer Park

Reviewed By Axcen28 - Northern Illinois

This is a beautiful park atop the cliff along the Mississippi River. There is an overlook partway up and even more great views from the top. You can see the bridge, Lansing, the marina, Wisconsin and hundreds of acres of Mississippi River backwaters. There are two areas with monuments to veterans and a large US flag. There are flush bathrooms, picnic areas and some hiking trails. This park is a must-see while you are in Lansing.

Blackhawk Bridge

Reviewed By Snowski11 - Joliet, Illinois

The only thing I wish this bridge is missing is a safe walkway. But being that said, it was erected back around the 1930's. Which is what makes it so wonderful. My mothers family is from Lansing so I feel a connection to the town and river and the bridge. It is a great place to take pictures of the Mississippi River with the bridge in it.

Driftless Area Education & Visitor Center

Reviewed By DANIEL M - Oak Park, Illinois

This is a brand-new location. The purpose is to provide a place for all to become familiar with the Driftless Area, a very unique natural area located across Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. I am impressed with the exhibits explaining the formation of the Driftless Area and its unique flora and fauna. The building features observation lookouts enabling the visitor a panoramic view of the beauty of the Mississippi River and the surrounding bluffs, the city of Lansing and the historic Black Hawk Bridge.

Madigan Winery

Award Winning wines in the heart of Northeast Iowa’s Driftless Area. Our quaint and comfortable tasting room is a granary, in which the oldest signature we’ve found is from 1895. We planted our first vineyards in 2003, the source of our International Double-Gold awarded dry red. Wines for every taste. Outdoor seating available. Beautiful and Bucolic country setting, way off the beaten track.

I decided to travel through Allamakee County, Northeast Iowa with my mom, godmother and a family friend. The drive was spectacular. We traveled through Yellow River State Forest, Driftless Area Scenic Byway and the Great River Road. The trip to Madigan Winery was a Wow! We checked out the artwork and merchandise. We taste tested several wines. We bought wine. Thank you Madigan Winery for being a part of our Allamakee Adventure that day. My traveling companions are still talking about it.

While staying in Lansing, IA at River View Inn we found a new place that opened under the Inn right on the river's edge! Bait/hunting gear/camping gear/guns and they also offer Kayak rental during the summer months! Enjoy the Mississippi River from your own rented Kayak!

This is by far the most beautiful part of the Mississippi river! Many back water sloughs to fish and paddle around in! But don't miss out on things to do in winter! They can help you with all your ice fishing needs! Supplies and live bait and if you are really really nice they will point you to some prime fishing hot spots! ;)

Hunting? They have all your hunting supplies and if they don't have it in stock they will order it pronto for you!

So happy they made their home in Lansing! Can't wait to rent a Kayak this summer and fish in warmer weather! With their Kayaks we can fish all our favorite sloughs easily!

A must do trip for wildlife photographers! So many Bald eagles and other wildlife photo opportunities!!
