The 6 Best Things to Do in Elafonisos, Greece

January 29, 2018 Emerita Lamoureux

There’s not a lot to do on Elafonisos...which is just how its peace-seeking visitors like it. This tiny Greek island is a mosaic of jewel-colored flowers, soft white sand, and aquamarine sea. Elafonisos is all about the beach, baby, with pristine snorkeling conditions and quiet stretches of sand. Every day ends on a happy note when you can dine on fabulously fresh seafood at a harbor-side tavern, relaxing under a tangerine sunset.

Simos Beach

This beach on some days is like a swimming pool with it calm, crystal clear waters and sand that stretches for a few kilometers. On other days, when there is wind, it's a great place to jump the waves, and truly enjoy the warm water and sun. Plus, the umbrella and two chairs will cost you between 5-10 euros, and the guy will bring you drinks as snacks as needed. Paradise!!!

This beach is adjoining the wonderful Simos beach and although it doesn't have quite the amazing range of colours, the water it is still superb. We went in late September, early October and the sea was warm and calm and almost deserted. There are no facilities here. A beautiful safe beach with crystal clear water.

This beach is a quick walk or drive from the town. The sand is fine, and umbrellas as well as soft cushy beach chair poofs are reasonably priced. The water is calm and the wind was "just right". The restaurant above the beach serves great food, reasonably priced. Well worth your time here.

Lefki Beach

One day of our stay there was a strong wind that made the Simos beach unsuitable to swim (high waves) so we went on the other side (2km) on Lefki Beach. In my opinion the water has an even more amazing colour here than on Sonos beach. The only "problem" is that this beach is really small, so you must come early if you want a good spot!

It was always a pleasure having a drink there at the sunset or even having an omelette during the day. The staff is friendly and the umbrellas on the small beach are waiting for customers. Peaceful.

Agios Spyridon Church

I visitied this little church by the sea and came here for it's Sunday service. I was fascinated by it's beauty in the inside but also by it's unique position on the island. It is the first thing one sees when you get to Elefonissos and it is worth a visit.
