We saw was so many animals in a short space of time, most of the animal were on the eastern side along the river, the western side the road is very sandy. At the water hole a large herd of elephants congregated around the watering hole. bird life is also in abundance managed to tick off so lifers.

I visited Impalila Island for one day (19 July) more by small boat than on foot and am glad for that. The inner part of the island is mostly rocks strewn about with lots of trash, unfortunately. You have to go to Namibia customs to get on the island but the Customs office is 200 m up a rocky hill. What is up with that? Why doesn't the customs office meet people as they get off the various boats that transport people to the island each day? No older or infirmed person could ever make it to the customs office, let alone the rest of the island which looks like a moonscape. The outer edges, however are green and make a nice boat trip. Book via Steenbok Safari in Kasane.

A short distance on the right travelling east from Divundo. There are the remains of a big South African camp from the Angolan war. The rough tracks take you down to the river. We saw water buffalo, kudu, and a variety of bird life including fish eagles and hornbills. Needs 4WD and a lot of care but very rewarding.

The Mafwe Living Museum is one of 5 living museums sponsored by the Living Culture Foundation Namibia. The three goals of these museums are to conserve and transfer traditional cultures, to create an income source in local areas and to develop a cultural and intercultural educational institution.
There are several options for your visit, we had the shorter visit with songs, dances, demonstrations of trapping and fishing, starting a fire, making of clothes and tools, and also traditional games.
The performers were very happy to show us their culture as soon as they sensed we had a genuine interest in it.
There is a shed on site where you can buy traditional handicraft. The sellers do not put any pressure on you to buy.
By going there you help a local community where there are very few employment opportunities besides subsistance farming. It is also a way to keep the younger generation attached to and proud of their culture by showing that people from far away come to appreciate what their ancestors did to survive.
To get there turn north on D3502 about 1.7 km west of the intersection of B8 and C49. The road was being completely rebuilt when we went there in May 2014 and you should not need a 4X4. In the village of Singalamwe stay left at the fork in the road near the school and after 200 metres you're there. It is supposed to be signposted, but due to the road construction when we were there the signs had been taken down.
