Mill Race Village

History is preserved at Mill Race Historical Village, a gem of the Northville community. Beginning in 1972, the buildings were moved from other locations in Northville, or reconstructed on site, on land donated by the Ford Motor Company. The Village is home to the circa 1831 Cady Inn, the reproduction Hirsch Blacksmith Shop with a working Smithy on open Sundays and at special events, the 1845 New School Church, the 1851 Greek Revival Hunter House, the 1873 Carpenter Gothic Yerkes Home, a Gazebo built in 1979 by high school students, a circa 1889 Victorian Cottage, the JM Mead General Store, circa 1830-1850, an original Interurban Station, built in the 1890's and of course our beloved circa 1873 Wash Oak School. Imagine your wedding on the Charming Grounds or in the Church of a Historic Village of the 1800's. The Cady Inn is available to rent for private events. The one room school house is available to rent for teachers wanting to take schoolchildren back in time for the day!

Miles of lighted displays and every year they add more. It’s very enjoyable and even prettier if there is a little snow. It’s just five dollars per car and the proceeds go to the park system.

Maybury Riding Stable

If you are looking for a safe and fun experience (and a perfect way to break the pandemic blues), I encourage you to make an appointment for a ride. Whether you come with friends, or your kids, or just by yourself, you will be welcomed and enjoy a beautiful ride through the woods of the park. Kim (owner) and her family really care for their horses like family members and are committed to sharing their love of riding with newbies and experienced riders alike. I went for a peaceful ride yesterday on a lovely Roan named "Romeo". From my perch in the saddle I spied many forest floor wildflowers starting their blooming cycle. I saw "Spring Beauty" (Dainty pale-white and pink flowers), "Dutchman's breeches" (white flowers shaped like tiny upside down pantaloons), "Mayapples" (bright green umbrellas that hide an "apple" shaped white flower underneath), "Marsh Marigold" (bright yolk colored flowers), and the "Trillium" is getting ready to bloom in a few weeks. Kim and her family have been operating the Maybury Riding Stable for years. And I can testify that there are no better horse-people (or even people-people) around. I have know Kim since 1998 when I trusted my first horse to her loving boarding care.

Local State Park. Several walking/hiking trails. Serene! Trails are well maintained, though signage is somewhat confusing. Back to nature without having to travel!
