Gandikota Fort

Reviewed By KolkataSonia - Bengaluru, India

As if the lovely river gorge wasn't enough, the place is rendered even more beautiful by the majestic fort. There's a small village within the fort - the guardian of the centuries old structures - a temple without deity, a mosque, a charminar tower, a jail, a granary...All free to visit, admire and click selfies. Please keep this place clean, folks.

Gandikota is one of the less explored area in Andhra Pradesh. Its a gorge formed between the Erramala range of hills, also known as Gandikota hills beside the banks of Pennar River. Its a breathtaking place for adventure tourists and explorers. We drove to Gandikota from Kurnool through Belam Caves. The distance between Belum Caves and Gandikota is nearly 80 kms. Part of the road is almost deserted and only google maps will be helpful to drive to this place. But the natural beauty is scintillating and should not be missed. There is ruin of a old Masjid (Jamia Masjid) through which the walk-able path is leading towards the gorge. There is no safety and security measures neither any instructions to follow. So one need to be careful while travelling with kids. The area is rocky and the river is almost 250 m down the hill top. Near this place a Haritha resort is situated and can be used for a one night stay. Overall a very nice place to be over weekend from Hyderabad.

This is noted famous temple of Lord Venkateswara in Kadapa district. People call this as 'Tirumala Tholi Gadapa' which means 'Tirumala First Step'. People say Lord Venkateswara kept his leg first here only so people say we need to visit this temple before visiting Tirumala. Powerful God. Nice temple to visit. There is a lizard scultpure at roof of temple inside. People say that if we touch this lizard all dhoshas which are bcz of lizard will go off. Bramhotsavam celebrations will be done here. God idol is big same like Tirumala. Marriages also happen here.
