In Vienna, the coffee house isn’t just a hangout: it’s an institution. Lingering over a newspaper with a pastry and a strong espresso drink is, according to UNESCO, officially a Viennese cultural pastime. Walk off your slice of Sachertorte with a self-guided tour of the city’s stunning traditional, Secessionist, and modern architecture, such as the Imperial Palace, the State Opera House, the Kirche am Steinhof, or the Kunsthistorisches Museum, an exercise in ornate geometry.

A healthy use of a war relic. Those who work there are friendly and competent, there are opportunities for physical contact with some species, which is rare and does not seem to bother animals. Great view of the restaurant / cafe on top of the building.

Danube Tower

Welcome to Austria's tallest landmark! The Danube Tower is a Viennese landmark and an engineering masterpiece. It now stands resplendent in a stylish reinterpretation of the 1960s. The express lift will take you to a viewing terrace 150 metres up in the air, with an unforgettable 360° panorama. That’s what makes the Danube Tower a popular destination – and the perfect starting point for all those who want to discover the city. A trip to the Danube Tower is something not to be missed: situated in one of the city’s biggest and most beautiful parks, the Danube Park, it can be seen from afar, inviting visitors to discover its secrets. First your gaze wanders upwards, up the tower to its striking pinnacle. Once up there, it roams into the distance, to the margins of the city and even far beyond. These changes of perspective make a visit to the Danube Tower an unforgettable experience.

The Danube Tower is situated in the Danube park. You can spend quite some time wandering the walkways of the park and just taking in the wonderful sights of nature. When going to the viewing deck of the tower you have an amazing view of 360 degrees over the entire Vienna and the Danube River. You can even see the mountains covered in snow. If you have purchased the Vienna Pass, entry to the viewing deck is included. This attraction should preferably be visited during day time so that you can take in the beautiful sights. At night you just see lights, but don't know what you are seeing. When at the viewing deck, it is worth while to make a reservation at the revolving restaurant and have a traditional Wiener Schnitzel, the food and service are out of this world. It is advisable to have lunch at the restaurant when you are a tourist as they have small boards fixed to the ceiling of the restaurant pointing to the major landmarks visible as the restaurant revolves... This can only be appreciated fully if you eat there during day time.
