Palembang (Indonesian pronunciation: [palɛmˈbaŋ]) is the second-largest city on Sumatra after Medan and the capital city of South Sumatra province of Indonesia. It is one of the oldest cities in the Malay Archipelago and Southeast Asia. Palembang is located on the Musi River banks on the east coast of southern Sumatra, with a land area of 369.22 square kilometres (142.56 square miles) and a population of 1,708,413 people (2014). It all begain with a boat ride. I was impressed with the high safety standards; it took a while to double check that everyone had a life jacket and that the number of people was under the boat limit. Then, the pagoda and experience of the Buddhist temple was lovely. We were able to play a divination game at the temple and enjoy the fragrant incense. I suggest climbing the steps up to the 9th floor and enjoy the glorious view.
