The Sudan or Sudan (/suːˈdæn, -ˈdɑːn/ ( listen); Arabic: السودان as-Sūdān) also known as North Sudan since South Sudan's independence and officially the Republic of the Sudan (Arabic: جمهورية السودان Jumhūriyyat as-Sūdān), is a country in Northern Africa.
