Inniswood has several paths, a brook, many flower beds and a mini waterfall. Our whole family loves this park, tall pines oaks give it a woodsy feeling while the different flower beds guarantee there is always something blooming from March until it frosts.

Char-Mar Ridge Preserve

We hike here a lot! This is only one trail of about a mile and a half, but it is all woods. It also has a large pond with a blind for viewing some water fowl. These include wood ducks and green heron. They have bird feeders that attract many beautiful species including red headed, red bellied, hairy and downy wood peckers. At dusk, you can even see and hear Barred Owls. It is a very nice park!

Blendon Woods Park

Reviewed By Toyota1994 - Chicago, United States

Visited Blendon Woods one December afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the woods. A special feature of the park are the ravines with exposed ripple rock sandstone. Take a view of a sample of ripple rock at the Visitor Center before going on the trails. The Walden Waterfowl Refuge comprising Thoreau Lake provides a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. There are two bird view shelters with binoculars at the end of the Lake Trail. Several trails criss-cross through the beautiful woods with views of the lake, the creeks and bluffs. The Overlook Trail, the Lake Trail and the Ripple Rock Trail are not to be missed. The Visitor Center was closed when I visited due to the pandemic. Blendon Woods is a lovely and enjoyable park.

The lovely Big Walnut Trail runs on one side of the reservoir and is great for biking, walking, running. Of course, the dam itself is a beautiful attraction.
