Băile Herculane (Latin: Aqua Herculis; German: Herkulesbad; Hungarian: Herkulesfürdő; Czech: Herkulovy Lázně, Turkish: Lazarethane) is a town in Romanian Banat, in Caraș-Severin County, situated in the valley of the Cerna River, between the Mehedinți Mountains to the east and the Cerna Mountains to the west, elevation 168 meters. Its current population is approximately 5,000. The town administers one village, Pecinișca (Hungarian: Pecsenyeska; from 1912 to 1918 Csernabesenyő).

This trip will take you to the tallest free-falling waterfall in Romania; 40 meters of water that turns to sprinkle before reaching the ground. We start in the morning and drive up the Cerna Valley. We also stop to have a quick sightseeing of the historical city of Băile Herculane. We park our car on the Cerna river shore and begin our hike uphill. After about 2 hours, we reach our destination, where we take our time to explore the site and enjoy the beauty and splendor of the waterfall. Later on, we continue our hike towards the Cicilovete Meadow, where we can admire the view over the entire Cerna Valley and the Mehedinți Mountains. From here, we return by the same path to our car. In the evening, we can enjoy a traditional dinner and some thermal baths in Băile Herculane, which is famous for their hot water springs.

In this trip, we will take you in the heart of the Mehedinți Mountains, where we will enjoy a pleasant hike along the tall walls and pine trees of the Țesna Gorges. We start off in the morning and head to the town of Băile Herculane and then up the Cerna Valley until we reach our starting point. We ascend through the forests until we reach the walls of the gorges. As we progress through the gorges, we enjoy the rocky scenery and wild nature. Along the way, there are several landmarks that we will stop by: an old watermill, a waterfall, and the canyon of the Țesna river. Our journey ends once we reach a sheepfold. This tour proposes a trip to the remote villages in the Cerna Mountains, where you can connect with local traditions and culture, meet the hospitable locals and taste authentic cuisine. Our destination is Inelet, one of the remote hamlets that are part of the Cornereva village, the largest in Romania. The hamlet is accessible by climbing some wooden stairs that were mounted on the rock to help locals get across a difficult passage. After we climb up the stars, we make a small detour to visit a nearby cave, then we continue on our way. After about an hour we arrive to Ineleț, where we will visit some local attractions, after which we stop for lunch at a local host. After lunch and some rest, we make our way back through the hamlet Cracu Mare. 4. Tasnei Gorge Hiking

Hiking through Țăsnei Gorges you will be able to understand more of the Jurassic limestone that formed the mountains and see how the constant actions of nature formed this incredible line through rock which now stand as Țăsnei Gorges. Also after the first hill we'll start walking on an old road which was the border of Austro-Hungarian Empire and was used as a border patrol road. Lastly nature itself that guides you through this beautiful landscapes is a reason worth visiting this Gorges!

The course is estimated at 1.5h, but it took us less to get to the waterfall and under 1h to get back. Although this is not an easy way up (or down), we enjoyed every minute of it, especially under the beautiful waterfall. On our way down we met a snake on the path, but it retracted peacefully in its hole with no incident. So, get some higher trailing boots, water in your backpack and enjoy the forest!

On the route you will discover the charm of nature that inspired the empress to write poems that today you can read on the route.
