My 9 year old daughter and I had the misfortune to go with Lorenzo horse riding this morning. Lorenzo is a man of few words. No welcome. No induction. He appears very unsociable and rude.
My daughter rides every weekend and is used to professional stables .She even helps lead horses out on ride outs every weekend. She felt very uncomfortable with Lorenzo as she felt he wasn't following best practice .She started crying so he took her reins off her and same with me so we were riding just holding the saddles. He then started to trot so I asked him could we dismount as I asked how could we control the horses without reins . He said we didn't need to control the horses he could do that from afar.He allowed us to dismount and he continued off with the other riders .
We soon realised we were completely alone in the Mallorquin countryside. There were no people around at all only fields. We walked for miles in what seemed like the outback .After nearly one hour a lovely lady stopped in her car as she said she was worried to see us out in such a remote area on our own . There were no people around just lots of guard dogs protecting land. She could see my little girl was crying. .She brought us to the nearest village and even offered to help us report our experience to the police.
After over one hour Lorenzo called me to say he was coming to look for us!!! I explained we had wandered the countryside for over one hour lost and his response was he had to look after his horses first!!! I told him to please leave us alone.
He then called me a second time .He only wanted to know where our helmets were? Well Lorenzo , whilst walking lost in fields in 30 degree heat and Sunshine with a 9 year old distressed child those helmets started to feel very heavy and were like we were abandoned at the side of a country road.
May I add I know Mallorca very well and speak ok Spanish having lived there so I didn't panic and managed to keep calm but it could be a really terrifying experience for a new comer to the island.

The Paintball Fantasy is located in the municipality of Sa Pobla, in a small residential called S'Ubac (next to Crestatx).
(You may wish to bear this in mind if you are thinking of renting a holiday home in S'Ubac (often confused with Crestatx on some rental websites), as the sound of the paintball guns travels quite a distance and you can be relaxing by your pool and suddenly be disturbed by guns shooting). It's definitely worth enquiring exactly how close the holiday home is to the Paintball Fantasy...
By car, from the Palma to Sa Pobla motorway (MA-13), at the Sa Pobla / Pollença roundabout, take the Pollença exit (MA-2200). After about 1 minute, you will find the Ermita de Crestatx (small church) on your right hand side, and inmediately take the left hand turning. The Paintball Fantasy is signposted from here. After this turning, it will take about 2 minutes to get to the Paintball Fantasy. There is a car park and a cafeteria too, and also a small playground. For an additional charge, you can have a BBQ there.
The info on the Paintball Fantasy's website is quite good, and if you decide to travel by train to Sa Pobla station, apparently they pick you up free of charge.
We were a small group and we were told to join another small group, in order to make a team. I think that you will have more fun if your party consists of more people. You need to reserve for groups of more than 10 persons.
The basic rate per person is 20 Euros (if you are a Mallorca resident) or 29 Euros if you are a tourist. I'm not sure how they check this up, but in my group of friends there were some non-Spanish non-Mallorca residents and they were also charged 20 Euros. They ask for an identification number, as you are required to sign a consent form.
With 20 Euros you get the paintball kit (boilersuit, mask, chest protector), please note that intimate security shields are not provided, this may be worth bearing in mind, and 100 paintballs. For a 100 ball refill, it costs and additional 5 Euros each time. I would advise everyone to take either a cap or a piece of materiel to cover their head and hair, as it is very messy if you get paint and/or mud in your hair. You will take about an hour and a half to complete the course.
Mosquite repellant and suncream will be an absolute must in the hot Summer months.
Expensive? Yes, a bit. But it's not something that you do everyday, and it could be your holiday highlight.

Bar Casa Miss

Wednesday evening is tapas night in Sa Pobla. The number one bar for tapas has to be Casa Miss, with its amazing variety and different creations. At one euro each, you can indulge and return as often as you like. There are a couple of exceptions when the item cost is two euros, such as one of my favourites, a mini beef Wellington. They are delicious, fillet steak in puff pastry. A bonus on top of the food and drink is the 'plaza' atmosphere. Where families meet and children of all nationalities play in the square with seemingly no language barrier ! Love it.
