We went into this market after visiting Large Donjon next door. Our visit was in April 2016 and there was only four or five stalls open and none serving fast food. It was mostly fresh fruit and veg. We were disappointed after Reading other reviews .

Le Donjon de Niort

An emblematic part of Niort's history, the keep is the last remaining construction of importance from the original wall surrounding Niort which was alomost 2700 metres long. Classified as Monument Historique since 1840, the keep is labellised Musée de France. The museum's permanent Exhibitions include archeological et ethnographic collections, as well as an exhibition about the monument's history traced through a modern layout enriched with a scenography.

I had to pass through Niort recently whilst visiting a friend. Sadly, the Donjon wasn't open at the time, but even from the outside it's worth going for a look. Hopefully I will be returning before too long for a lengthier visit and plan to look inside then. I can't believe it won't be as magnificent inside as it is outside.

Musee Bernard d'Agesci

A cabinet of curios, the Museum Bernard d'Agesci displays several key treasures of a cultural heritage, collected in only one place, a former girls'secondary school inaugurated in 1897. This multidisciplinary museum reveals exceptional collections: Fine Arts, ethnographic, music, numismatics, natural history, and an education academy, retracing a century and a half of instuction.

Four of us went to this moderately sized museum and all had our favorites. This is truly a varied museum from natural science to oil paintings to a history of school items to s special interactive light show. I enjoyed the school display while my husband liked the temporary exhibit of the light show. We met for coffee in an attractive wood-paneled area afterwards. Staff were very helpful.

During a month long exhibition of various top notch / arty photographers this building was used as the HQ and the activity centre. I believe it's also in use throughout the year if you are interested in photography. Once an elegant family home, now almost in ruins in places, it's a long way from being a rival to the National Portrait Gallery in London.......but I'm glad they made the effort.

A magnificant church with lots of history, and good windows, its a church in use so pick your time to visit.
Peacful and yet full of life.
Climb a small hill out of town, there is little or no parking nearby. So park and wlks.
It is worth a visit if you like churches.
