The Naturpark Blockheide is a protected area nearly Gmünd in Waldviertel, Lower Austria It is a varied heather landscape including meadows, mixed woods, small lakes and small fields and the famous giant granite blocks, very good place outside activities with friends and family

This is a large pool area with saunas, in-door and out-door pools, on the banks of a lake. So you have many choices where to swim or relax after swimming. Having small children, we appreciated that most pools are heated to 32 C+. I also enjoyed swimming in the 25 m competition pool (heated to 25 C). The pools are filled with salty water. There is one slide for children, jacuzzi, and a whirl pool. We went there in July, still the place was quite, not crowded. There is large parking in front of the spa. You can buy a 4 hour ticket and a 1 day ticket. For sauna entry you pay extra.

the northern woodquarter part of Austria near the czech border is unique. it is quiet and peaceful, magic, not crowded, chilling enough to enjoy cosy fireplaces in hotel rooms or restaurants, - its worth a relaxing spa weekend or a recreational week to gain back energy. alone - couple - friends - family. if you are the kind of type, you will be able to enjoy huge meals in bohemian restaurants for a bargain as well across the border

Wer etwas Zeit in der altehrwürdigen Kärntener Stadt Gmünd, insbesondere zu Fuß, verbringt, wird unweigerlich bei seinen Spaziergängen an dieser Kuriosität anlangen und staunen können:
Auf der einen Seite der Straße ist der Altarraum, von dem aus der Pfarrer auf die andere Seite der Straße in den Raum der Gläubigen predigt, die dort in zwei Stockwerken sitzen!
“Kreuzbichl” – im Jahre 1588 wird urkundlich “ein Kreuz am Bichel” erstmals erwähnt.
Wahrscheinlich einmalig im ganzen süddeutschsprachigen Raum steht hier eine Kirchenanlage, die sich beiderseits des Straßendurchstiches aufbaut. Und zwar befindet sich im östlich gelegenen Teil, der 1754 erbaut wurde, der erweiterte Altarraum mit einem niedlichen Glockenturm. Dieser wird mit einem kunstvollen Gittertor, das die Inschrift 17 PDISIM 54 trägt, abgeschlossen.
1784 wurde die Kapelle erweitert und der Emporenraum auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite errichtet. Der Hauptkapellenteil trägt an der Straßenseite ein Chronogramm, die Summe der römischen Ziffern ergibt die Jahreszahl 1784.
Die Kapelle ist der schmerzhaften Gottesmutter Maria geweiht, das Altarbild zeigt die Kreuzabnahme Jesu Christi und wurde vom heimischen akad. Maler und Bildhauer Josef Meßner aus Oberdorf bei Rennweg 1861 in Öl gemalt.
