General Butler State Resort Park

General Butler State Park was a solo overnight getaway for me. It's an hour from Louisville. I had been there for lunch in the past but had never stayed overnight until this time. It's nothing fancy but it suited me perfectly. My room (with one queen bed) was enough for me and it was very comfortable. I loved the little patio! The weather was perfect for sitting outside in the evening. I enjoyed exploring the grounds and taking pictures. I had dinner and breakfast at Two Rivers Restaurant. Both were excellent. The catfish sandwich I had for dinner was the best I've ever tasted. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I intend to go back.

This tour is a MUST experience at General Butler State Park! The history almost comes alive from the telling of the stories by our guide Paula. She has thoroughly researched the house and the previous owners and weaves a wonderful tale of American history. The house is complete with original and correct furnishings, even to some of the original flooring from 1859. If you camp or stay at the lodge do not miss the opportunity to tour the house. I’m sorry that other reviewers were unable to tour the house. We read the information that you needed to stop at the Lodge and arrange for your tour.
