I am surprised about how relatively unknown this temple is. It really is an incredible sight. We went there on Sunday coming from Daejeon. The bus ride was comfortable and easy and everyone was very helpful once we got to the entrance of Songnisan national park where the temple is located. The climb to the temple is about 30mins from the bus station and features amazing nature and drastic mountain ranges. We went end of October and this is truly the best time to visit in my opinion. The autumn colours here are amazing nothing like i've ever seen before. Once you arrive you are engulfed by the beauty of this temple, with it's staples the golden Buddha and the 5 story high pagoda. But these are not the only beauties. Every building is intricatally decorated and adorned with many large statues within them. Be sure to indulge in the buddhist culture and enter the temples or the buddha to meditate it really clears your mind and is a truly endearing experience. You can stay for upto 3 hours which we did and will always have thing to see and do. In conclusion really a MUST if you are in the Daejeon or even Seoul area

Located in the heart of Korea, Songnisan National Park is about 3hrs from both Seoul or Busan. During spring the Mountains are vivid green with plenty of flowers starting to bloom.
Nearly all visitors start at Beopjusa Temple. From the temple it takes 3-5hrs round trip depending on your pace and how many rests you take. The hike while fairly strenuous rewards visitors with a majestic view of Korea's central mountain range.
Like all of Korea's 20 national parks, Songnisan is very much worth visiting. Combined with Beopjusa Temple, these 2 fantastic places are not to be missed.

CY ( 2014.06.21 ) This tree was famous for gainning government position and lived about 700 years. But this attraction was only one tree. This pine tree was visited on the way to Beopjusa. About 5 minutes, can see this area.

This house was representative with Yangban's big house in the old days. The Yangban means the nobility in Joseon Dynasty. This house show Yangban's life, structure of the house. But there was need to improve facilities. I didn't underdstand why this important cultural asset didn't well managed. I wish this cultural asset was well managed and many people visited there. This house's landlady was very kind.

Samnyeonsanseong Fortress is a bit hard to find. There is no fee, and very little visitors. Yet, this is one of the most extensive Silla fortresses that exists. For 1-2 hours you can walk along the ruined walls. A ruined Silla fortress that has not been rebuilt by a later dynasty is indeed exceptional. What you are seeing here is authentic Silla fortress design.
It should be noted, near the entrace of the fortress there has been some renovation and re-building. I have mixed feelings about this type of restoration. The fortress is 1,500 years old and when you rebuild any part of an ancient fortress the results are so obvious that it can become an eye-sore.
I had a great time here, I fit Beopjusa Temple, Songnisan National Park, and Samnyeonsanseong Fortress all into a fantastic day-trip from Seoul. I left very early in the morning! None of the sites were a dissapointment, Boeun is a hidden gem located in the heart of Korea.
