A short walk from the town centre takes you to the ruined chateau overlooking Vendôme. Worth the effort. We did it early evening on a cooler evening and enjoyed the visit. Very little shade on way up so best to avoid on hotter days. That said it had a lovely atmosphere and amazing views. Currently there is an open air exhibition of some Russian photography with images of life in northern Russia around a cosmic ray research station. This was of particular interest to me as I used to have cosmic ray detector on the top of my lab at work in Bristol, UK. I would recommend a visit.
