The Castle of Muskogee

We are an events facility with events running throughout the year. We start our season with the Renaissance Festival, step back in time to the 16th century right here in Oklahoma. Next up we have our Fireworks season. We have over 30,000 sq ft of indoor air conditioned shopping, with everything guaranteed to light. After that we head in to our annual Zombie Run, come run for a cause! Our 5k obstacle course with Zombies goes to support charities. We aren't done with Zombies just yet, come pick from any of our 11 events for the Halloween Festival. We have something for everyone from not scary to very scary. Then we get ready for our annual Boare's Head Feaste. Come dine like royalty in our traditional Renaissance Thanksgiving. Once we finish there we have our Castle Christmas event. We have lights, inflatables, Father Christmas, Hayrides, and soooo much more for your Christmas celebration.

Ive worked and been a patron of the Castle since 2005. It is an amazing attraction with plenty to do on your own or with friends/family. The 2 big events of the year are the Renaissance Faire in May and the Haunted Castle in October. The Renaissance faire in my opinion is definitely a first class event. It has amazing food, small merchants with wild treasures, beautiful garb, and but the actors of the Castle are the true treasure. They devote so much of their lives to these characters. Most spend the entire year preparing, sewing, practicing and planning their characters for the faire. Its not much different at haunted castle. An amazing fun and atmosphere. Can be very scary but it also fun as heck. Great characters, lots of jumps and screams. Just a fun time. Id definitely try both events atleast once. They are completely worth it.

Every time we go to Muskogee we drive through Honor Heights Park no matter what time of the year. It is lovely. Daffodills are just popping out. Within a month it will be ablaze with azaleas. It has a wonderful landscaped pond. There is a butterfly garden to tour (for a small fee) and a gift shop. Clean restrooms are available there and also at the playground. There are tables for picnicking and plenty of parking. Don't miss the April azalea experience.

USS Batfish

Temporarily closed until April 6th due to COVID-19 precautions. Verify hours before visiting! At the Muskogee War Memorial Park: Home of the USS Batfish, visitors may explore a World War II legend, the USS Batfish. Unseen and unheard while stalking its prey in World War II, the USS Batfish claimed over 14 kills, including a record breaking three enemy submarines. History awaits for those who adventure!

This might be my favorite museum ship and museum to visit out of all of the ones i have been to! If you are a World War II history buff, a navy buff, have interest in the military, or just interested in submarines, this is an absolute must visit! As people who have been to museum ships know (especially from the World War II era), sometimes they can be in pretty bad shape. The USS Batfish however is in absolutely fantastic shape both inside and out and looks very authentic to the period still with how it has been kept up since it was brought here in the 1970s. This was my second visit to the Batfish and it is still a very cool thing to visit and an amazing experience. The museum exhibits are very informative both indoor and outdoor and provide a lot of great information. The submarine looks great on the outside and inside both. You just step into it and feel like you are on a patrol in the Pacific in World War II. While it is pretty crowded inside (and a world of warning, going thru hatches compartment to compartment may be pretty difficult for those that are older or not in the best shape), it is just amazing to see what the inside of a World War II submarine looks like and how it must have been to serve on one. The interior looks so good it looks like it could still be operational and it has been kept in great shape thru the years. There is plenty of information to learn from inside the sub and also from the guides (if you so wish) and also as a side note, it is air conditioned so it is actually quite comfortable, even in the brutal Oklahoma July heat like the day we visited. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the USS Batfish and I will be back for a third visit and many more in the future!
