Albemarle CiderWorks

We reached out to them because we were going to be in the area on a day when the tasting room was closed, but we wanted to stop by. They gladly accommodated us, and we had a fantastic time. My wife and I shared a full complement of tastings, and the kids enjoyed glasses of their non-alcoholic cider, which is a must-buy when they have it available. Apples are capable of generating a wide variety of flavors, and all of their ciders are unique. Some of the apples they use you might have heard of -- Winesap or Pippin. But others you might not have -- Black Twig, Arkansas Black, or Goldrush. There are even varieties of crab apple that make excellent cider! And they see themselves as custodians of the past as they understand and research traditional approaches to cider. Love this place! We will come back.

What an amazing afternoon we enjoyed at Pippin Hill today. While not nearly connoisseurs, my husband and I have traveled to many wine regions as far flung and varied as Napa and Tokaj and much in between. And we have never enjoyed ourselves as much as we did at Pippin Hill today. To begin with, the scenery and grounds are just gorgeous. Stunning does not do it justice. The winery itself is spotless and has a sophisticated country aesthetic. However it was the wine, cuisine and service that made it even more of a stand out. We enjoyed two flights; one white, one red at the recommendation of our very knowledgeable, warm and engaging server, Carter. He took his time to explain his recommendations in a way that was personal, thorough and unpretentious. The food that we ordered to accompany the wonderful wine selections was gorgeously prepared, delicious and fresh and reflected the understated elegance of the fine farm ambiance. This is one of those places that you hope doesn’t get spoiled by the crowds. One note, make a reservation. We were glad that we did as they were turning people away.

Wisdom Oak Winery and owner Laura truly blew me away. I called a few months in advance to see if we could use their space for a bridal shower and she said yes, that she would allow it for free as long as we bought wine. She was SO easy to communicate with during the months leading up to the event and even kept in touch re: the weather the week beforehand and offering to move the event inside or move it to the next day if the weather didn’t cooperate. That was already a huge blessing. Thankfully the weather ended up being perfect. What I wasn’t expecting was 1) The grounds to be so beautiful that I almost cried when I pulled up on the dirt road. The road to get there takes you through canopy of trees and when you’re finally there you truly feel like you reached a slice of heaven! 2) The wines were some of the best I’ve had, and 3) Laura was truly an angel. She went above and beyond to help me make this night one to remember, making multiple trips back and forth to bring me water and supplies I forgot, and even offering to help me decorate and blow up balloons. I was astounded at her hospitality. Thanks to her, it was a night we will always remember. I can’t wait to go back with my husband and dogs next time we are in the area! Thank you, Laura!!! You are a special human being and your winery is heaven on Earth.

Relaxed, bright environment with great wine and extra surprises like mulled wine and a berry wine that has more antioxidants than any other berry. Would definitelyy return.
