Pulicat Lake

The second largest brackish water lake in India is along the Coromandel Coast, just 990 kilometers from Chennai. Visit here for the bird sanctuary and the exotic barrier island of Sriharikota, which divides the lake from the Bay of Bengal. The island also houses the Satish Dhawan Space Centre and several commercial fisheries.

Pulicat Lake Boating is perfect get away with friends and family. Boating is realm experience and preferably if seafood lover perfect plan would be boating with meal planner prepared by local members. Roy Boating Services are great in arranging, worth time n money and thier hospitality, care for guest and guidance was professional and perfect experience. The beach next to connecting location of lake n sea is too good for quality time.

Pulicat Bird Sanctuary

We went to Sriharikota on 7 Jan 2018 to see flamingos. There were hundreds of them in the water on the way to the space center. Since they are about say 200 meters from the shore you need a good pair of binoculars to see them. It was a beautiful sight. There is a view point sign and from there we can get to the shore easily. These birds can be seen till February we were told. It is 90 kms from Chennai and will take two hours to reach that place. It is just beyond Sullurpet.

Nellapattu Sanctuary

If you are a bird lover then this place is a must to visit. I was here for Tirumala visit and I had put up in Tirupati. Hired a cab and reached the sanctuary in 2hours. I was lucky there was not a single visitor in the sanctuary. I visited on a weekday considering it’s covid I preferred a weekday to avoid crowd. They charged me 250 rupees which is very nominal (I had a camera). There are guides available incase you need. Birds spotted Pelicans, open bill storks, Black headed ibis, Ducks. March is the time when most of the birds leave the sanctuary.. the guide informed peak times is Oct -Feb. during November we can also spot few endangered species. I spent approx 3hrs exploring the sanctuary. Looking forward for my next visit in November
