Riverside Park

My girlfriend and I spent some time here with our canoes waiting for our husbands to shuttle vehicles. It was sunny and 80 degrees; we put a blanket down under a tree and just sat and talked. Everything in this park is very clean, including the park shelter and the satellites. There is a playground and the kids there didn't bother us. Part of the Cannon Valley Trail is down below next to the river and we saw a few cyclists going by. This is a very nice place to canoe or kayak the river, or do some biking. There is a big parking lot for quite a few cars. Right now (Sept. 2020) the river is about 6-8" below normal, so there are multiple Class 1 rapids and some exposed rocks. We had no problems but we've been doing this for decades.

Accessed in Cannon Falls, the Cannon Valley trail is very scenic, with lots of shady areas along the river. We went early (on the trail by 9:30am). So, not crowded. Trail is mostly level, with only a few minor grades. Mile markers and rest stops. A great fun and safe outing. A $5 trail pass is required. Can purchase there, or in advance on line.
