Johnson park has many things to for all ages, trails, running, basefields, soccer fields, a water park, bike trails, playgrounds, and a beautiful nature preserve that I always see a new bird or two. The boardwalk takes you to the wolf river.

Collierville TN Historic District

We had a few things planned for our time in Memphis - unfortunately, construction forced road closures made getting around rather difficult. Added to that Mud Island being closed ruled that out SO, at the recommendation of the Visitors center off we headed to Collierville. Wow was that worth the trip. We parked at the Historic Town square and spent about 45 minutes wandering around reading the information boards and taking lots of photos. As I was walking under the pergola in the square I heard bell chiming out the tune to Winter Wonderland. It plays on the hour it seems. From here we ventured to the Morton Museum in the old Christian Church. This is chock full of the history of the town and region. Plenty of photos, memorabilia, stories etc and the staff are great. They have period outfits that you can take your picture with so even kids will enjoy this museum. I would highly recommend a visit to both the historic square AND the Morton Museum at the Church

Herb Parsons Lake

Catfish heaven. If you like to catfish, this is a great lake. I prefer to jug fish; use 5 foot lines and large hooks. Catch bait fish, I use shad caught with a cast net, and cut the bait fish into large chunks, at least 3 x 3 inches. When you leave the boat dock turn left and stop at the opening of the second cove. Go into the cove about 20 yards, turn around and start dropping jugs every 30 feet while curving to the right as you leave the cove. Fish dawn till 10am or 3pm till dark. I always leave with 6-10 fish and typically catch at lease 1 fish in the 28-35 pond range. The second best spot is the deep cove straight across from the bait shop. Note: if you use anything else for bait you will not get the same results. It does matter.
