The 5 Best Dinner Theaters in Great Barrier Reef, Queensland

December 6, 2021 Velvet Mowry

The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

Stage Door

Best little show on Earth! Three course delicious meal, 90 minute comedy cabaret show. Starring Bernadette Smith and our very own Boy From Oz, Kevin Wright. Beautiful live singing, fabulous costumes and hilarious stand up comedy. Vegas in the tropics!

Grease Lightning, based around my all time favourite, was absolutely brilliant. Have been planning to see this show for months, and am so pleased we did. Both Bernadette & Kevin have so much talent, they draw you in, make you laugh till you cry with their wit and humor, not to mention those voices. Delicious 3 course meal, and a friendly atmosphere. If you go expecting a huge full on production, you might be in for a suprise, it's not. It's even better.

Footlights Theatre Restaurant

Footlights combines a brilliant 2 hour comedy show with a delicious 3 course dinner into 1 unforgettable night. Footlights, perfect for any occasion, or just a great night out. Footlights it's for you!

With so much inauthenticity in today's world, here is a place that transports you back to good old times when passion for theatre was genuine, love for performance was in the heart, and enjoyment of live entertainment was care-free. Tonight, my family and I were embraced by a down-to-earth frivolousness and reflections of a bygone era - perhaps some which have not been even been dusted in ages - that could never be re-created in its true spirit ever again. The Footlights Theatre in Yeppoon, Queensland, is genuine authentic. It is not West End and indeed we should all be thankful that this - may I say, institution - is not! While you may not leave bedazzled as you may an Andrew Lloyd Webber production, you will leave feeling cuddled - sometimes literally, but you'll have to see a show to understand why - by the whole experience. From the moment of arrival to the dimming of lights suggesting it's time to close, we felt a sense of "this is not how things are done these days...". It's perfect because its imperfections are "how it was once done". And that is... beautiful. Remember that great Australian movie "The Castle"? In the same vein, I give this establishment 5 STARS simply because IT'S THE VIBE!

4 of us went on a Friday night & paid for the 3-course dinner and the adults only Cabaret show for $84. It was a super fun night and we got drinks table service with the dinner and show package which was awesome, as normally you have to line up at the bar if not doing the dinner package. The quality of the show and performers was excellent with a talented cast of local singers, dancers and comedians, none better than Peter James as emcee Wolfgang Valentine with a fake moustache & Brooklyn accent. The skits/numbers were not all original material (eg Otto Titsling from the movie “Beaches” showed up in the 2nd half) but were all executed with awesome commitment (special shout out to the amazing wardrobe and costumes) and the raunch factor was just right (nothing too boundary-pushing), though Wolfgang was pleasingly uncensored and had the audience in fits of laughter. Best of all was the amazing towel sequence, with two amazing male performers strutting around in towels covering their nakedness from the audience (mostly) in eye-openingly creative ways. Donna Perignonn’s drag balloon popping performance was another highlight as was a certain number involving a female dancer with a strap-on. Food was good for the price ($30 for 3 courses effectively) with a basic entree, choice of 3 mains (roast beef & arancini balls were 2 of the options, and chocolate mousse inside a biscuit casing for dessert). We also took photos with the cast afterwards which was nice. A great night out! I’d be super keen to go back again.
