Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center (“WheatonArts”), founded as Wheaton Village in 1968, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to engage artists and audiences in an evolving exploration of creativity. The mission will be advanced through the interpretation of collections and exhibitions; education initiatives and culturally diverse public programs; residencies and other opportunities for artists. This working crafts village in South New Jersey features glass making, pottery and more with opportunities to watch the process and meet the artisans. It is also home to the Museum of American Glass. It is located at the site of the former Wheaton Industries where Wheaton glass was made. Many of the buildings appear to date back to Victorian times. Besides the museum, the highlight of a visit is the glass furnace, whose mighty chimney dominates the sight. WheatonArts also features shops where you can pick up your own treasures and a pretty good snack bar at the entrance.

A great job was done putting this museum together. It's free and to say the least very interesting. You could literally spend a few hours in there if you tried to read everything displayed. Speaking with the volunteers was awesome, they really have a good bit of knowledge regarding all the things on display. Donations are appreciated but not required. After walking through this museum you get a feeling of sadness thinking about the men and women who have given their lives to keep us free from harm

Levoy Theatre

So I win tickets to see Mary Wilson formerly one of the Supremes from a local oldies radio station. I've never been to this place but I know the neighborhood fairly well or rather I thought I knew it. Millville NJ is a town in south jersey that has many boarded up homes and is a place that one reads about in the police crime blotter of local papers so I was a bit skeptical where to put the car and looked over my shoulder to be aware of my surroundings from the lot to the theatre. Know what? It wasn't so bad and wow, the small upscale restaurants in close vicinity to the theatre reminds me of other up and coming neighborhoods. How I've never seen this place I'll never know because as we turned the corner the marquis was lit up in all its former glory. Built in 1908 and meticulously restored in 2012 this place is gorgeous. The volunteers who work in this non-profit venue were all friendly and helpful and we were seated fairly close to the stage. I don't think that there is a bad seat in this 650 seat house. They do serve alcohol and have a limited snack bar. Mary put on quite a show for a 74 year old and by the end of the evening she had us all feeling like old friends. The Levoy has many shows throughout the year and I hope to attend a few. Sure it'll never host the Rolling Stones but there are plays to be seen, former major stars to be heard & cover bands of the favorites to be experienced. Even the Glenn Miller band will be performing soon. As the Levoy ks a non-profit organization they do have a donation bucket but there's no pressure at all to donate. Tickets were reasonable and though I didn't purchase mine they sold for under $50. Of course prices will vary depending on the show. Don't hesitate seeing a performance here and plan on dinner or drinks just outside. Enjoy.
