The 10 Best Walking Tours in Tulum, Quintana Roo

June 6, 2021 Velvet Mowry

Mayan ruins tower over the sea in Tulum. The formerly walled city was one of the last to be built by the Mayans, and its archaeological sites are incredibly well preserved. Take a break from the beach to visit El Castillo, the Temple of the Frescoes, and the Temple of the Descending God. Explore an underground river under a canopy of stalactites in the sacred caverns of LabnaHa Eco Park, or dive into Cenote Dos Ojos to snorkel inside of caves in the middle of a forest.

Wow!!! So much happened in this trip that it's hard to summarize. First off...take more cash than you think you need. You'll visit several places that don't have credit cards as an option. And then remember to tip your house at the end. We felt so bad that we only had $1 dollar left to give them because they were so amazing!! So nice and polite and knowledgeable. This was a very long excursion (12.5 hours) that was incredible and we're so glad we took the time to do it. We learn s so much from the guide and the places themselves.

In Mexico we have a very strong tradition of muralism since the 30s. Today the concept of muralism has changed. The artists paint the streets to beautify the public space or resignify places where there is violence, etc. In our street art tour we will go sightseeing through the city center; will see incredible murals by world-renowned artists as Curiout, Emma Rubens, Rocha, Senkoe; explore the underground graffiti world by local and international artists. We will talk about the local and international art projects and festivals, learn to identify different styles and techniques of graffiti and know more about the world of street art. This tour is perfect to help those unfamiliar with Tulum to settle into the experience

In our recent vacation to Cancun, we booked multiple tours through the resort, so they were all with different companies. Our favorite, BY FAR, was this tour to Chichen Itza with our guide, Alvaro. He was so personable, funny, charming and knowledgeable. He and the driver (whose name I didn't catch) were very covid safe, they provided masks and hand sanitizer at every stop. Alvaro spoke in both Spanish and English the entire time and even spoke Portuguese to the couple from Brazil. He taught us Mayan culture from the tour sites and even from his own perspective (he is Mayan himself). The tour was fantastic, the caves are absolutely to die for and our last stop had the BEST food. He presented how to make the food step by step, and we were treated with a taco buffet at the end. Couldn't recommend this tour enough, hopefully you get lucky and get Alvaro! Take tons of pictures and get that clout!
