The city of Sitka, located on Baranof Island along the Alaska Panhandle, was once the capital of Russian America. Nearby Sitka National Historical Park was established to commemorate the Battle of Sitka in 1804, the last major conflict between Europeans and the native Alaskans. The park now helps preserve the culture of the Tlingit people, as well as the Russian and American settlers, with collections of rare artifacts, the preserved remains of the Tlingit fort and a Russian Bishop's House.

Our tour included a comfortable bus ride to the summit ending in a border crossing to the Yukon. The Driver/tour guide was a awesome young fellow who clearly enjoyed his job and made sure everybody enjoyed this part of the trip. The train took us back to Skagway and we had a different but equally awesome views of the beautiful scenery and the narration was very informative. Definitely a must do and the city of Skagway is a very nice city to visit.

This is Sitka's most highly rated small-group kayak adventure. By combining an ample half-day of paddling with one-way boat transportation, you’ll be able to explore a variety of Sitka Sound’s countless islands and seldom-traveled passages. While paddling through mazes of reef and kelp forest your interpreter/guide will help identify the colorful marine life visible below, including: crab, sea stars, anemones, sea urchins, jelly fish and more. At the surface, in addition to the star of the show – the ever amusing sea otter – we also frequently sight harbor seals, sea lions, porpoise, bald eagles, and a variety of marine birds. We’ll step ashore on a seldom-visited island to stretch our legs, do a little beachcombing, and enjoy a hearty snack while soaking in the majestic wildness and amazing views of the Sound. This half-day wilderness exploration concludes with an exciting 30-minute boat cruise to Sitka.
Inclusions: 2-person sea kayaks and all paddle gear required, Lunch, Snacks, Bottled water

Our's was the last trip of the 2019 season but it could have been the first - the excellent guides Garrett and Alison were full of enthusiasm, gave us some good basic padddle training before we set off and the top of the range supplied equipment was in as new condition. John, Alison & Garrett went out of their way to ensure we had a very enjoyable and safe expedition. We paddled across the sound, saw humpback whales, eagles, otters and seals. If you are visiting Sitka a day or half day paddle with Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures - kayaking is not to be missed. Andy Redwood

If the time you have in Sitka is short, or if you have not paddled on the ocean before; this two-and-a-half hour adventure is the perfect sea kayaking “sampler.” But be forewarned, those who try it are usually hooked for life! Picturesque Sitka is located in the most beautiful setting of any coastal community in Alaska, and it is an area rich in history and culture. Your adventure begins with an equipment and safety orientation by your guides. You’ll then set out at a leisurely pace to explore sheltered waterways, harbors and coves. Sitka’s dependence on the sea will be fully evident as you paddle near fishermen to their vessels. Beyond the harbor we’ll explore island shores and kelp forests, while keeping an eye out for abundant wildlife. Throughout the tour your attentive, friendly guide will relate interesting stories about the area, explain the ecology of the forests and ocean, and point out wildlife and other interesting sights.

Nothing short of a great experience with this company. I highly recommend a kayak tour with them. The owner was very accommodating to our needs as a result of a website glitch to the tour/date that worked best for our group of two. Our tour guide was extremely educated in the area, marine life, waterways, etc. She was a joy to chat with along the tour. We saw many different species of animals while on kayaks, except sea otters, which I was hoping to see. The owner knew how much I was hoping to see otters and while on the way back to harbor, via boat, he made sure to find some before the tour was over. We couldn't have been happier with our tour. At the end of our entire Alaska trip, we both said our favorite part was kayaking in Sitka!
