The Diaguita Indians called Tafí del Valle “the town of the magnificent entrance” and they were right: Tafí del Valle is one of the most heavenly destinations in Tucumán. Once people get to this summertime villa, the valleys welcome their visitors with their green and brown colors that contrast with the blue sky, with a dike over which the sun reflects and with unpaved roads that are a testimony of years of history. A must do when visiting San Miguel de Tucumán.

A wonderful city with old buildings and narrow streets. It invites us to travel to the past. I went with my family and we really enjoy the trip, We knew its historic neighborhood, its museums, the Portuguese and Spanish colonial buildings. We also visited the Colonia del Sacramento lighthouse which is surrounded by the ruins of a convent and has panoramic views.

Only 107km away from the capital, Tafí is located at 2,000 meters above the sea level. It has a very pleasant climate, which allows tourism all year long. Despite the fact that the place has developed a lot during the last years and that it has become the ultimate destination for Argentineans and foreigners along the year, Tafí still preserves the mystery of its aboriginal culture among its hills.

We cross Yerba Buena road to the Rinconada, to begin the ascent through the exuberant Jungle of Yungas to Villa Nougués, built between hills and ravines. A few kilometers further on are Loma Bola and San Javier with Cristo Redentor. Finally we arrive at La Cascada, where we will make a mini trekking through the Yunga. My group of 14 people visited with the local family for a great dinner and empanada cooking session. everyone enjoyed the opportunity to try many of the local dishes and to even make one. the hosts were fantastic. as this was our first day in Argentina and it set the tone for the reminder of the trip.
