We had an excellent tour with Andres. He brought us to a great spot to view the sunset where we could see the Alfama area and the river for a great view. He told us some history of the Alfama area and fado music. He brought us to the dinner show and walked us in and gave us the time he would be back to get us. The dinner show was very good. We had salad, codfish and vegetables, creme brûlée, wine and coffee. The music and singers were wonderful. The restaurant was small and intimate. After the show we had a nice walking tour of Alfama with Andres. He got us some cherry liquor in a chocolate cup to sample. Alfama at night was so interesting. It was great having a knowledgeable guide to walk us through the narrow, winding streets. Thanks for a great evening Andres!

In this tour we will visit the National Palace of Queluz, built in the 17th century by Peter, the brother of King Joseph I, it became a royal palace when he married his niece Maria, daughter of the king. It was the venue of the great festivals of the idle and rich nobility, of bullfights, fireworks, music concerts and sumptuous dancing serenades. This palace witnessed the dramatic moments that preceded the escape of the royal family to Brazil during the first Napoleonic invasion and the birth and death of the emperor of Brazil Pedro I, as well. In Mafra we visit the palatial complex composed of two palaces, a convent and a basilica that was built by King John V between 1717 and 1734. This magnanimous work was built unimaginably far from Lisbon and consumed gigantic resources. Leaving Mafra and before coming back to Lisbon we'll still have time to visit Ericeira, a traditional fishing village also known by its wonderful beaches and the surf spot.

Inclusions: Transport by air conditioning Van or Suv, Hotel pickup and drop-off, Local guide, Bottled water

Henrique was our guide for a delightful day designed around our specific interests and temporarily limited mobility. We visited Estoril ( where we learned "Casablanca" was filmed), Cascais, a mountain viewpoint in the Serra da Sintra National Park with spectacular views of the coastline, Sintra itself but briefly because of the crowds, and on the way home, the Queluz Palace. Our day was all the more interesting because with his extensive knowledge of Portuguese history Henrique was able to put everything we saw into a more comprehensive context. Regrettably we don't know Portuguese so his facility with foreign languages was a vital contributor to our enjoyment. The day was also a wonderful eating experience because of Henrique's familiarity with the region, including a morning espresso and traditional pastry at Cascais and delicious lunch at at a restaurant where we are pretty sure the other guests were entirely Portuguese. Without hesitation we thoroughly recommend taking tours with Henrique!

Sintra is the Paradise of the Aristocracy in Portugal with its Palaces and Landscapes surrounded by an exuberant flora; We invite you to experience our Tour of Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. Witness the Portuguese history revealed in Sintra through its exuberant and unique Palaces and Gardens. For more than five centuries, the Portuguese royal family used its sumptuous mansions and luxury properties as summer homes to enjoy the clean air and refreshing microclimate of the mountain, escaping the heat of Lisbon’s summer, as described by the English poet Lord Byron in his book ” Glorioso Éden ” (Glorious Eden). Sintra continues to attract great writers and filmmakers, who find inspiration in its beauty, as well as in its legends and fables. Visit the the cosmopolitan village of Cascais with its lovely harbor full of small fishing boats. Free time to enjoy this once small fisherman’s village, now lisboners (inhabitants from Lisbon) favorite resort area.
