While I probably wouldn't go there just to hang out for a beer, this place has amazing pizza! It's just a small bar-type establishment, and it's very clean in there. The staff are friendly. You can eat the pizza there or get it to go. Amazing crust, really! Check them out.

Ward's Marsh Wildlife Management Area

Technically this birding area is at the border between Whitehall, NY and West Haven, VT. You approach it from East Bay Road just north of Whitehall.
There are two ways to explore. One is by taking many of the several paths in the area - which are outlined by Nature Conservancy. The trails are well marked. You also can drive all the way west on Garlick and take a peak at the old farm that the Conservancy has saved.
We explored the other way- by water.
There is a pull off by the bridge over the river, but we drove over onto Garlick Road, continued west for a while, and found one of a couple places to put in our canoe. Once in the water we paddled both ways. Significant amount of bird sightings- from ducks, to warblers, to kingfishers.
It was slow and easy paddling so easy to stop and watch. We went in September so it was also full of migrants.
You can also enjoy fishing on the river.

Black Mountain

My boyfriend and I chose this to be my first full mountain hike, all the way to the top. It was a lot tougher than we expected -- the reviews elsewhere said it was either easy to moderate, or moderate to difficult, and I'd go with the latter. The trail up to the summit was wet and very rocky all the way up -- though of course, I'm not a very experienced hiker or all that in shape, so if you're a seasoned hiker, you might find this one easy. It was rough going for me, but I'm glad I pushed through and made it to the top, and the view of Lake George was very pretty when we got to the summit.

Stopped by with family members on our way to Burlington. They have rest rooms, information desk, brochures. They were very helpful. They have signs out front with towns listed and mileage to them. We took turns taking our picture with them. They gave us directions on the best way to get to Burlington and our hotel for check in and some suggestions on some places to visit. Overall a nice experience and a much needed break to stretch our legs.

Pattie's Patch

Reviewed By lifeisverygood2 - Queen Creek, Arizona

Pattie's Patch is open from late spring until the early autumn season. You can find their phone number on the internet. I'd call before going there if you're not sure if they're open. It's more than a fruit and vegetable stand. They have fresh baked goods and a large variety of honey, jams and jellies and maple syrup - to name a few things they offer.

If you happen to be in the area, it's a delightful place to stop. They had lots of fun things to buy when we were there. Especially if you're traveling through the area, like we were, it was fun to indulge in the things that are unique to this part of the country. It's not inexpensive, but everything we purchased is good.

Skenesborough Museum

Reviewed By Ted S - Dagsboro, Delaware

The museum is definitely worth a visit. It is a somewhat disjointed collection of artifacts and in this age of slick, high cost museums it might seem a little unprofessional but don't be thwarted by that impression. There is a wealth of information inside about how Benedict Arnold directed the building of America's first Navy fleet of war vessels and then confronted the British on Lake Champlain. There are lots of old maps and photos and a series of models that show what the boat building area looked like and how the boats were made. The admission fee is only $2.00 per person so its like a real incredible bargain. Just walk on down the street to see the locks and beyond the area represented by the museum. Very educational and good place for families.

Lock 12 Marina is located at the entrance of beautiful Lake Champlain in historic Whitehall, New York. The marina is a favorite stop for boats cruising the inter-coastal waterways from Florida to Canada. Also located at Lock 12 Marina is the chef-owned Finch & Chubb Restaurant. The Finch & Chubb Inn provides hotel rooms with views of the water and Adirondacks.

This marina was a fantastic stop on our trip to Burlington, VT. The owner, Linn was fantastic and extremely accommodating. The restaurant was not open the night we arrived - he called in the chef to cook us dinner and it was fabulous. They also brought complimentary appetizers out to our boat before dinner. We had water and electric hookups. The bathrooms/showers were spotless. This really was a 5 star place. RIght before the lock there is a free place to stay - I suggest paying the very minimal price at Whitehall instead - it is well worth it! Everyone that worked at this place was friendly and extremely helpful. We will definitely go back.

William Miller Home and Farm

A historic site on the national register of historic places; a fascinating look back into New England history in the early 1800's.

Reviewed By RandomTraveler76 - Laurel, Maryland

Toured Miller's Home and Farm while on road trip around New England. I really enjoyed the tour which included pictures, some of Miller's own personal items, and stories to go along with it all. It brings to life a man so prominent in the SDA church's history and the history surrounded him and the advent movement.

On the same property is Ascension Rock and Miller's chapel. Pretty impressive to stand on Ascension Rock and think back to the day of waiting and the time surrounding it.

A free tour that is well worth a visit!
