Doolhof Wine Estate

The farm has been the jewel of the Bovlei valley for three centuries and has had many owners. The current farm dates from 1993 with the decision to grow high quality wine grapes. The first vines were planted in 1995. Since the present owners acquired it in 2003, they have built a winery, tasting room and storage complex. In 2005, the farm was given Estate status.

Right at the end of the Bo-vlei road and right beneath Bainskloof pass with stunning scenery. I enjoyed their wines and had a nice cold meat and cheese platter for lunch. Friendly service and a must do estate if you're after good wines

Diemersfontein Winery

Excellent winery stop recommended by friend, and are we glad we stopped! Wines less expensive but excellent. The Pinotage is fabulous, unless you do not like coffee. If you like coffee, you'll adore it!!! Others very good as well. Staff quite friendly, providing crackers, chocolate, jerky etc to complement the wines, and we ended up buying excellent chocolates there too after tasting. The warm experience was so welcome and different from the typical experiences at high end wineries. This one won't disappoint.

We had lunch at this lovely farm recently. The food and service were outstanding and very friendly. The carrot cake is to die for, but so is the bobotie. This is a lovely half-way stop when cycling in the winelands. Comes highly recommended.

Bontebok Ridge Reserve

Reviewed By Tina-Angelo - Wellington, South Africa

We have been to Bontebok Ridge many times and absolutely love it. Don't expect to see the big 5, but lots of quagga, Springbok, eland and of course, bontebok. The scenery of the reserve which is set against the limietberg mountain range is absolute spectacular. We usually go in the afternoon but I would imagine that it is stunning any time of the day. The farm is owner run so you can be sure that your guide knows all about the area, the animals and the reserve. There is the option to stop at the lapa overlooking the dam where a glass of wine and some yummy homemade nibbles are served. They also have six wooden cabins for rent. Buy some meat from the reserve for a braai, try your luck on the fun 5 hole golf course or take a dip in the dam. Even though we only stay on the other side of the mountain, spending a few hours at Bontebok always feels like a mini holiday!

Very off-the-beaten track venue - no signage to speak of so we nearly ended up in the middle of the bush in a very low-slung sportscar... HOWEVER, the tasting and personality of the Edmund & his amazing pack of hounds (see and you will understand!)...MoreThanks for the feedback. Sorry about the signage, it is back in place. All the best, Edmund
