These communities generally have mailing addresses that use Weed or its ZIP code. The total population of this area in 2007 was 6,318. Weed is about 10 miles (16 km) west-northwest of Mount Shasta, a prominent northern California landmark, and the second-tallest volcano in the Cascade Range.

The statues at the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden create a lasting memory amidst the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Shasta and the Shasta Valley. It is definitely worth a stop. Great place to stretch and get some fresh air if you have been traveling all day.The beauty of each sculpture resonates with emotion. The artists truly convey the feeling of each soldier.

Just off the freeway and an easy hike down through the forest, you come upon this delightful waterfall in front of a womb-like cavern. You can stand behind the waterfall and be sprayed by the water, cooling you down on a hot day. Red, iron-laden soil has been used to leave handprints on the rocks. Looking up there are tall columns of hexagonal basalt stone which when touched, make you feel this is a place where heaven & earth meet. Following the path beyond the waterfall, there is a vista point overlooking the Sacramento River. One warning: don't stray from the path, there is poison oak everywhere.

The Best souvenir and local art store in Weed. They have many things from local artist items, fun tee shirts, to collectibles. Most items are priced very reasonably. All is a play on the name of the town... Weed. The owner is a fun upbeat and helpful person who has lived in Weed his entire life and can provide historical information on the town, best places to eat, and unique local attractions to see. The business phone number is (530) 938-4678. I found it a very fun place to stop at and will do so when passing through the Weed area right off I-5. Gas and food very nearby.

We were exploring the area while staying in nearby Dunsmuir when we happened on this lake. We paid a $2.00 entry fee and drove through a nice campground down to the lake. There is an awesome view of Mt. Shasta over the lake and when you added in the beautiful billowy clouds it made for a heavenly sight. We sat near the beach for awhile watching the people splash around enjoy themselves. This would be a great place to camp as they also had a waterpark and boat rentals. Would love to come back with our tent for a week.

Our captain and guide, Michele, was amazing. She is very knowledgeable about the various things to do in the area, the history of the lakes, where to eat...etc. She is very sociable, chatting with grandma and grandpa and keeping the kids entertained too, so mom and dad could relax. My children warmed up to her immediately and she was very supportive and encouraging of my son who was a bit hesitant and scared at first. The children had life jackets that fit and Michele went above and beyond and got a non-pink one for my son who was not happy with the first one he was fitted with. She had various inflatable tubing toys and water guns too! My daughter later told me that going out on the lake with Michele was more fun than playing on her iPad. And my son said he enjoyed the fishing. You should bring sunblock, your camera (the views were breath-taking), sandals, swimsuits, food and drinks. We were out on Lake Siskiyou for about 2 hours, but would have easily stayed longer if it weren't for the thunder storm rolling in. I highly recommend Fun Factory Rentals. We will definitely be doing it again.

You cant beat the experience of driving up to Castle Lake. Beautiful windy road that gains elevation with great views of Mt Shasta and Black Butte across the valley! But that is also the problem. Since you can drive anyone can an unfortunately people come to "squat" for lengthy periods of time. God made us all a little "different" which is good but sometimes too different for me. Disease and hygiene are big on my avoid lists and well to some others not so much. If you drive up its pot-luck for occupants. If you don't like what you see turn around and try another day as there is plenty else to do in the area.
That aside early in the AM the surface of the lake can be like glass and reflect the granite wall on the far side majestically. The ripple of a surfacing fish might be the only thing to wake you up from your trance. The water tends to be super clean especially late June on. Sometimes a little snow and ice remains too so don't dive in. If you tolerate the water temperature you can try to swim to the large rock that is easily visible from parking area. On the far sideline is a Little pebble strewn beach that will allow for a swim to a floating dock about 100 yards out. Those intrepid adventurers can swim from the pebble beach to the triangle cliffs for some cliff diving. The water is deep and ive seen 25 foot or more jumps into the pristine water. I feel you have a kayakyou can't spend a happier day than lying back drifting with the breezes. A wonderful place to spend a day!

Interesting park enclosed in the woods with lovely grounds and tables suitable for picnics. The spring that flows on the northern end of the park is said to be the headwaters of the Sacramento River and provides water that people trap in plastic containers for drinking as well as a small downstream pool which is used for bathing.

This used to be one of my favorite courses in the area, but slow play is becoming a real issue. The last time (and trust me, it will be the last time) we played it took us 2.5 hours to play the front nine. That is borderline acceptable, but when it took us 45 minutes to play the next two holes and then we found three groups waiting on number 12 we called it a day and came home. Nice course, but until the management stops trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of the place I can't recommend it to anyone who is looking for a sub-6 hour round.

This is the gorgeous high-desert and it's wonderful fun! In any case, the club house itself, as well as the restaurant, are modest and comfortable, very conducive to relaxation. The casual restaurant/bar serves fun-food and priced right, the staff make you feel like family...who needs more than that? The Scottish Course is beautiful and lots and lots of fun, especially if you don't mind losing several balls. And all in the shadow of magnificent Mt. Shasta, it's a golfers' bargain for folks who like folks, and who know how to relax! P.S. I don't know what theeir photo of a log house has to do with the Lake Shastina Golf Resort, or Scottish Links. Perhaps it's one of the homes around the course? It's certainly not the clubhouse, nor one of their rustic but adequate condos. Oh! and their large driving range and pitching/putting areas are facing that terrific mountain...it's a challenge to keep your eyes on the ball! Caveat: LSGR is habit-forming!
