The village is quite a nice little surprise. Full of historic items and suitable for small children because it is small enough to be manageable. Opportunities to see blown glass, weaving, and other hand arts but you can go your own speed, stopping where your interest lies. Shopping opportunities were good for glass and pottery items. An interesting general store too. We ate at the barn after. A decent array of very yummy farmhouse fare. Fantastic crisp fried chicken and great old fashioned sides. I filled my plate twice at this buffet. Friendly staff. Great for kids too. I can't think of a negative unless you really can't appreciate the food type.

Knotty Vines Winery

Reviewed By FrugaliciousDiva - NW Ohio

I visited this winery with a group of nearly 30 African-American women for a wine tasting tour that was planned months in advance. We had visited two Indiana wineries and wanted to end Ohio Wine Month, with an Ohio winery/vineyard. When arrived we saw there was a sign that it was Customer Appreciation Day, however we were not greeted warmly and our wine tasting was rushed. Though the servers were nice enough, the owner Julie was EXTREMELY rude, unprofessional and made it known that we were supposed to have been GONE by the time the Customer Appreciation festivities began. Were we not customers? The intention of the wine tour was to taste AND purchase wine, but it was clear she didn't seem to care about customer service or our business. Tickets that were given to some in my group for the customer appreciation food, were snatched away and told "it was not for us". Since it was open to the public and posted on their facebook page, why didn't the customer appreciation apply to us? We can only conclude that it was because we were Black and this was downright discrimination!!

We decided to pay for the tastings and make our exit, cutting our trip short. It was demeaning and very disappointing. Then, when we began to review this winery on facebook, we were met with a copied/pasted response that was smug, condescending and unapologetic. Julie gave us a poor image of Wauseon and she owes us a public apology. I would advise people, especially if you're a person/group of Color, to say NO to Knotty!!

Family owned business. They offer a variety of pick-your-own opportunities. They also offer fruit and other treats in their store.

Once a year, in September, they sponsor "Apples for Everyone". They donate apples to different food banks in the area and ask people in the community to pick the apples. They make a little festival out of it. I look forward to participating every year.

This is a rebuilt covered bridge, however it does seem that this site has historically had a covered bridge in this location. For someone who resides outside the USA this was special as we all see this type of bridge on TV but never rarely get to see them in real life.

Harrison Lake State Park

Stayed in the South campground which was not as spacious or interesting as north. Also, no shower/flush toilets on South side, however I have never been in nicer, cleaner latrines.
Plusses: very clean, quiet countryside location away from noisy highways, lake has swimming beach, family oriented, had playgrounds, horseshoes, volleyball, soccer available, had ice cream and entertainment the weekend I visited.
Minuses: eutrophication of lake makes it unswimmable some of the year, camp store not well stocked, could use more ranger patrol on weekend to keep noise down

We stopped in for some delicious wine and were surprised to learn it was their 3rd anniversary, so they had hired Miller City Barbeque to make 175 free barbecue chicken dinners for the first 175 customers. The food they serve there is wonderful, but the chicken dinner really hit the spot and you can't beat the price .

We have friends that have campers there. The camp ground seems very clean with lots of activities for everyone. They have bands or DJ's on the weekends and certain weekends of the month there's a camp wide "flee market". For visitors like us its 3 dollars a person which isn't bad at all. It's a great way to visit w/ friends close to our home.

A nice small wooded area with a number of trails that are easy to follow. Two parking lots so is easy to access. As in all wooded areas in this location bug repellent is a necessity any time from spring thro to autumn.

You can visit the park many, many times and still find something new to see and do! I live close by and visit often, but never ceased to be amazed at the new places within it and the new rare species which exist. From the sand dunes to the bike trails to Tornado Alley to Mallard Lake, there are so many different habitats to explore in one trip or many. So many rare things to appreciate! Truly the best of the Toledo Area MetroParks!

The Corks Winery

I am not what I would call a wine expert. I like what I like. And I have a definite preference for sweet wines. Well, the Corks hasn't had one sweet wine that I do not like, I like all of them. They also make a good Sangria. The atmosphere--not what you might call "jacket and tie" only type atmosphere. Very laid back, down home, friendly atmosphere. Might be considered country type atmosphere with barn type siding on some walls, oak barrels as vertical walls under the tasting bar. Good wine, reasonable prices, some gift items, some food, good / friendly people, special events. Please check their website for more information and pictures.
