Curl Curl to Freshwater Beach Coastal Walk

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

Undertook this walk as part of a walk from Collaroy to Manly. While my own favourite part of the Collaroy-Manly walk is the wilder and more elevated section around Dee Why headland, the stretch from Curl Curl to Freshwater also has plenty to offer, with some lovely coastal views (and summer breezes). It is also a much more straightforward and easier track to traverse, with much of it being along boardwalks. There are water stations along the way but there is not a lot of shade - it's definitely a good idea to wear a hat. .

North Narrabeen Beach

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

North Narrabeen has long been renowned for having some of the best, most consistent waves on the East Coast and along the way the area has produced some of Australia's most famous surfers. From the lookout on the point at the northern end of the beach you can see the current crop ply their skills. (Just look for the crowd of onlookers with cameras.) If you are not a red-hot surfer North Narrabeen still has plenty to offer. There are very good ocean baths also at the north end that attract families and serious lap swimmers. The beach is also very long, extending several kms to Collaroy Beach in the south. Very good for a long beach walk and there are plenty of uncrowded (though also unpatrolled) sections along the way too.

Narrabeen Lagoon State Park

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

The track around Narrabeen Lagoon is about 8.5 km long and can be walked at an steady pace in about 2 hours. The track is across flat ground for its whole distance, and while surfaces underfoot vary from gravel to paved sections and stretches of boardwalks, it is all easy walking. For me, the highlights are walking through the remnant littoral rainforest, the near constant views of the lake, and the abundant birdlife. Not surprisingly, there plenty of waterbirds like cormorants, pelicans and black swans, but you might also see bush birds like fairy wrens, willie wagtails and king parrots. The track does follow busy Wakehurst Parkway for some km, but there is bush between the road and track to help buffer the traffic noise. (Plus, lovely views across the lake also take your mind away from the traffic.) On the north side of the lake there is also a sidetrack that follows Deep Creek. On my last circuit of the lake my friend and I thought we would investigate this track. My advice: don't bother. We only walked it for about 400m beyond the Deep Creek Reserve and the bridge over the creek. The terrain was rough and the vegetation patchy and uninspiring, with stretches dominated by thickets of lantana. Dumped household rubbish didn't add to the appeal

The Gin Making class led by Tom was great fun, very well run, and great value. A gin upon arrival provided as part of the class and then during the class another Gin Cocktail and food platter were all complimentary part of the class. All this as well as a well structured class, excellent access to everything you need to make, enhance and personalise your very own Gin and a knowledgeable instructor that helped us make and bottle our own 700ml bottles of GIN to take home.
