Wonderful spot with a great view out to the inland Waipara Hills. Fantastic wine and brilliant personalized, unpretentious explanations from vinter Kirk and Alison. We stayed at The Wine Pod which is a fantastic tiny house with a great cedar outdoor hot-tub. 5 ⭐️

The wines of The Bone Line are simply amazing. The SharkStone Chardonnay is the best Chardonnay that I have tasted in New Zealand, and the Rieslings are beautifully crafted. The tasting was conducted in a friendly and informative way. Totally recommend to stop by.

Only 50 min from central Christchurch, the Weka Pass Railway is a historic rural railway using both vintage steam and diesel-electric locomotives out of Waipara, North Canterbury. Take a train ride on one of the public operating days on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, most Sundays in January and most public holidays. Perfect for a break on a trip to Hanmer Springs, Kaikora or while visiting the Waipara wine region. Trains will usually be hauled by 1909 built "A" Class "Pacific" steam locomotive number 428. It might be a long dusty track out to Lake Taylor but it’s well worth it. The lake is packed full of trout and there is a small Doc campsite there, basic but pleasant. If you don’t mind some seriously pot holes roaring you can cycle from Lake Taylor all the way to Loch Katrine. If you don’t want to go the whole way then grab a picnic and a camera and just enjoy the day. Remember it is farm land so keep the gates closed be hind you and be respectful.
