It was an overcast day when we visited here but lovely little fishing village all the same. As it was out of season we were able to park right at the bottom by the sea. There are a view places to stay here directly opposite the sea which must be amazing listening to the waves crashing from your bedroom. Little shop selling postcards, stamps and bicuits and jams made by the nuns/monks? At the monasterio de Santa Maria de Valdedios. Little house made of shells and lots of little seafood restaurants around selling overpriced fish even on a Monday. We decided not to eat here as even out of season the fish seemed really overpriced, for the price of one fish dish here we had an entire amazing meal at El Catalin which is a 5 min. Drive away.

we just turned up on a Friday morning & asked for a tour. We paid 1.50 to go round the museum and the factory tour was free. They realised our Spanish wasnt that good, so provided a tour in English just for us. It was...MoreThanks for your opnion. Since last summer, the museum is also free.

Pablo and Marta, the owners, are lovely, friendly people. They set up their pick-your-own soft fruit farm after seeing one in the UK - it's not a typical Spanish thing. They wanted to bring the health benefits of forgotten local berries and currants to the local people, in a way that involved people choosing their own, controlling the amount they bought and having time out in the open air.
If you've been to UK pick-your-owns, you'll know how it works - fill a punnet, get it weighed and pay. What's unusual about El Malain are the delicious home-made ice-creams and jams they sell in their little shop. All made, right there, from their own berries and currants, with less sugar than the usual supermarket stuff. Perfect presents if you're driving past on your way to the ferry home from Bilbao - and lovely to have on the table at breakfast time if you're renting a house in Asturias.
They're only officially open to the public in berry season - June through September, from 10 in the morning till 8 at night.
Visiting El Malain was one of our most special memories of the area - partly because of their ice-cream and jam, but mainly because it's heartwarming to see people working for the good of those around them, both human and animal. El Malain, as an open air farm, gives sanctuary to all kinds of wildlife. It's well worth visiting.

We looked inside the entrance to the huge church but it was locked so we paid for a guided tour (in Spanish). It was very detailed and although I didn't understand all of it, it gave you entry to the old 9th century chapel next to the church and the church itself with its beautiful organ and altar.

This bar is a must visit for anyone visiting vilaviciosa. The range and choice of cocktails is amazing, our children also had non alcoholic cocktails which were gorgeous.

Great cafe to visit. Try the Iced Coffee that comes with a scoop of ice cream!! Kids also get very good treatment. Great wifi too

Walking around the Town and not far from the centre and cafes/bars is the Iglesia de Santa Maria de la Oliva...is a 13th-century Spanish Gothic style stone church. A lovely Fountain is nearby.

Vamos mucho a tomar el vermú y nos gusta el sitio, nos sentimos muy a gusto. Nunca habíamos comido, a pesar de que teníamos ganas. Por fin un domingo nos decidimos y he de decir que no será el último. La comida está riquísima, todo casero y con ingredientes de calidad! Todo lo que probamos excelente: menestra, fabada, llampares, cachopo....las patatinas con pulpo se habían acabado, pero para otra ocasión las probaremos ya que nos hablaron muy bien de ellas, así como del pote Asturiano y de los callos!! Tenemos deberes pendientessss y los haremos!

En una parroquia anexa a Villaviciosa, está junto a un pequeño Cementerio y ya la hemos visitado en un par de ocasiones. En todas la hemos encontrado abierta.
Es de nave única, con una cabecera muy rica tanto exterior con tres ventanales completos y canecillos, como interiormente, con arquería y gran profusión de capiteles, uno de ellos con la misma escena que el de la magnifica puerta de entrada principal. Hay otra puerta exterior mucho mas sencilla, junto a la sacristía.
Aunque añadidos posteriormente, la galería y la espadaña le dan al conjunto un aspecto espectacular y encantador.
