Vailankanni Church

A nice church at The Vergin beach of Uttan, it is a place to surrender to the devine peace & beauty of nature. At about 20 minutes drive off western express ways of Mumbai, this location is less explored, quite clean an just 4 Km off to way leading to Gorai, Easel world & Vishwashanti Monestry like popular locations. Quite approachable but not listed at Trip advisor. Pl list it...

Reviewed By Gopakumar1981 - Mumbai, India

I visited the church twice in the month of November 2015. It is located near Uttan beach which is about a 40-45 minute auto ride from Bhayandar west station. It can be visited by any one irrespective of caste/religion. It is believed to be a powerful goddess who would heal all your health related sufferings.
If you have any physical suffering you could offer body parts/ entire body made of wax to the shrine which is available from the office (e.g you have stomach/kidney /heart wax parts ). We offered an entire body made of wax charged reasonably at Rs:40 to the Vellankani shrine after our prayers for healing the body ailments.
We visited the church in the morning around 10 am and found no one inside. However we could enter the church and there was complete serenity inside which helped us in doing our prayers/meditation easily. We also visited the church at 6 pm and you could listen to the discourse given by the priest mostly in the Marathi language.

Chinchoti Water Falls

Reviewed By Sneha K - Thane, Mumbai

This is a waterfall amidst nature completely surrounded by jungle. The water was flowing with good force even when there was no rains for a week. Nice to see such a great waterfall within Mumbai.
The place is easily reachable by public transport. Get down a Naigaon station on western line, ask anyone for ricks for going to chinchoti fata. You will get share ricks from station to reach chinchoti fata. They take upto 8 people in share rick, 30 rs per seat. From chinchoti fata there is a 2 kms road to reach to base of jungle. There are ricks available which takes upto 100 Rs to carry 8 people. We chose to walk this distance, it took us just 35 mins to cover this distance.
Actual trek starts from here, the road passes completely through jungle, the path is full of small pebles, rocks and mud. If you are nature lover you can enjoy spotting many types of flies, spiders, caterpillars, mosquitoes, butterflies, crabs, frogs, lizzards etc on your way.
There are many places where you can click pictures, sit to take breaks. Path is full of shade. The main waterfall is at a distance of 1 hour of walk for someone who walks with medium speed. The road is not having any steep slopes, no continuous climbs. In between there are many diversions which also takes you to small ponds formed naturally by the water from Waterfalls. The water in these ponds is also continuously flowing. This is a waterfall where you can go with your family with elder members as well because there is no slope to climb and nobody gets tired walking in this jungle.
The only disappointment for me was there were many groups having liquor and enjoying themselves at the waterfall but luckily there are many spots where people with family and children can also enjoy themselves. the area of waterfall is quite widely spread.
Precautions to take - Carry mosquito or insect repellent if travelling with kids, carry enough water and eatbles, carry plastic bag to bring back your garbage and avoid littering in jungle. Wear appropriate footwears because the stones in waterfall are very slippery because of the continuous water running through it. There is littterally nothing to eat once you enter the jungle. Be ready to attend to nature's call amid nature :P

We visited this place as a corporate group of 13 people, and the ultimate objective was to have a lot of fun, which we did. The activities setup is amazing, and the staff was very helpful when it came to helping us do the adventure activities. The bungalow itself is very neat and clean, and the entire area was well maintained.
The ACs in the room were functioning, and there was only once a water issue, which got resolved in 10mins. They had provided for a big speaker and we could play music from our phones, and we had a gala time dancing and listening to music....
The biggest and the only problem is the food setting. They don't make anything on their own, and depend on some external hotel to get food. They had warned us to order at least an hour and a half before the need for food, but it took way more than that....Also the quantity of food provided was not ample, and they didn't stick to the promised menu. For e.g. the salad was missing, one veg main course was missing. The sandwiches promised in the morning came when we were about to leave, a full 3 hours later than promised...
When we spoke to the owner about the food setting, he said that he has already offered us a discount of one person, and hence would not even listen to our complaints.
Still, we ended up having a great time because the bungalow was quite and peaceful, and there was no disturbance from anyone local.
I would recommend going there to have a good time, but watch out for food, or better yet, see if you can make your own arrangements!!

Bhuigaon Beach

Reviewed By Osden F - Vasai, India

Its an hire or get your own vehicle type of a place. An sea shore located far off from the main civilization but frequented by people.
The beach is flat and had a thick cover of SURUCHI trees. The SURUCHI garden is a good place to sit for a days picnic, do your activities like painting with hardly anyone distracting you.
There is not much available at or near the beach. There is only a small shack serving hot batata vadas with tea / coffee & packed snacks with soft drinks. About a 10 minute walking distance is a ice-cream and soda shop. The trees cover up the sun and also provide a natural mat for people to relax.
Just keep in mind that there are no rest rooms in the place and no modes of transport to the beach.
It is sad to say that in our latest visit we found a large amount of disposables thrown around the place and large amount of beer bottles and cans. A very distracting scene considering the virginity of the place.

Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Reviewed By NIR006 - Mumbai, India

Off the Western Express Highway at Vasai, is the Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary - rich with birds, reptiles and mammals. Best time to visit is in the monsoon, when a number of streams cut across the trail. There is a well-defined mud road that goes all the way to the Tungareshwar temple that is located on a hill inside the forest. However, the trail through the forest is a wonderful nature walk by itself, irrespective of whether you visit the temple.
Fauna I could see: crabs (plenty of them), macaques, and birds (including the grey hornbill and the dwarf kingfisher).
The odd vehicle or 2 making their way to the temple are a nuisance for those on a nature trail.
