We stopped in hoping to see the falls running, but it was frozen over and still pretty. The hike is short and easy to get to the overlook...even for me who doesn’t do much hiking and easily winded. I want to go back during the summer. Mother Nature definitely has some beauty to behold.

When I checked out the ice rink on an afternoon bicycle ride, the local hockey team was leaving the ice, tiny little skaters were donning their skates, and the Zamboni was gearing up for action! I could not have been more intrigued. A local teacher showed me the public schedule and I made my plan to return.
Upon returning, as a 60 year-old, it was rather intimidating to think of ice skating for the first time, but the guys at the counter were so very kind. For the first 15 minutes, I was the only one on the ice, but later, others appeared. The managers gave me tips, as did other skaters - enough to keep me upright for a full 2 hours! I watched a large group of bumper cars as I skated - looked like loads of fun.
Most fantastic was coming back that evening for another first - ice hockey! The Wranglers, a junior hockey league team, took the ice for a night of pure excitement! Players from across the nation come together in Steamboat Springs training, preparing and vying for a possible shot at the NHL. The energy on the ice was exhilarating, as well as with the enthusiastic fans in the stands - and the lights and music - WOW! Did not matter that I was not a local - the Wranglers won my loyalty!
Everything in Steamboat Springs exudes community pride, and this Olympic-sized ice rink is no exception. First class quality in every way! You MUST plan a visit!

A six acre gem of ponds, berms, and over 40 gardens. It is one of the jewels of Northwest Colorado and one of the few botanic parks in the state. Free to the public, where visitors can learn about local wildflowers and fauna. Open Spring, Summer and Fall from dawn to dusk. Closed in winter. Amphitheater, available for rent, Core Trail access, drinking fountain and nature/hiking trail. Can be rented for a special event. No pets.

This was a great find. Beautiful even on a cool drizzly Saturday in late September. There is ample parking, since the garden is adjacent to a youth soccer field. It is a slight walk from the parking lot to the garden, but over a level path.
This is a wonderful gift to the city and its visitors. They have a great variety of plants. The grounds are well maintained by a group of volunteers. Most of the plants are tagged for easy identification. Although the space it compact, the various paths lead to multiple quiet areas, it you just want to sit and relax.
There is a special children’s garden and it looked like that had education programs for kids.
There are some very nice, clean rest rooms near the back of the garden. There is also a separate entrance from the Yampa River Core Trail. I was intrigued by their rock garden installation. Lots of unique small plants separated by flat sandstone rocks stood on end.
Admission to the garden is FREE!! Donations are accepted. I would love to return on a sunny summer day with more flowers in bloom.

The Yampa River Core Trail is a seven mile, non-motorized multi-use trail that follows the meandering Yampa River from Dougherty Road through downtown Steamboat Springs to Bear River Park. Groves of cottonwood trees, excellent fishing, scenic overlook benches, and lovely picnic spots make this trail a great place for a leisurely stroll or a commuter route through town. Additionally, there are many parks and playgrounds and more miles of trail that can be accessed off of the Core Trail.

My wife and I have stayed in Steamboat Springs 1-3 or 4 times a year and have walked and biked this trail many times. it's an excellent trail along the river. It's paved and very wide with great scenery along the river. There's a very nice Botanical Gardens along the trial also. Go out and enjoy.

The Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs is a public tennis facility located in the mountain area of Steamboat Springs, adjacent to the base of the Wildhorse Gondola (the smaller gondola.) Our facility offers both indoor and outdoor courts - including 6 outdoor hydrocourt clay courts, 4 outdoor hard courts, and 6 RSS 500 cushioned indoor hard courts. We have demo rackets, a pro shop, and offer private and group instruction. We can also set up games for you while you are visiting. In 2011, the Tennis Center at Steamboat Springs was named the USTA National Tennis Facility of the Year.

We normally ski the Epic resorts but decided to try something different. steamboat didn’t disappoint. They had a lot of snow for the last week of March and lots of tree runs that aren’t packed too tight. We will come back.

Been to the hot springs numerous times. The setting is awesome. The springs are good. However, the place is going through some neglect. The parking staff is very unpleasant and rude. The cash taker is unenthusiastic about the job and their apathy shows through. Litter from the tourist is unattended and pools are becoming very crowded from overselling. The basic area is just starting wear out. It is just generally decline.

We really enjoyed the gondola ride up the mountain. The cars are comfortable and the ride is smooth. The view from the ride is amazing looking down into the valley. They do monitor the winds and will not let sight seers up in the case of high winds. You must have a board or ski is to go up the gondola in high winds so that you have a way to get down.

We drove the 30 or so miles out of Steamboat to reach the Slovonia Trailhead which takes you to the Gold Creek Lake Trail 1150. We didn't get as far up the trail as we wanted due to snowy areas and raging river waters too high to cross.
