Copper Fox Distillery

This is where your new favorite whisky comes from! At Copper Fox Distillery we dedicate ourselves to making great American spirits by emphasizing a combination of innovation and tradition. We start from scratch, floor malting our locally grown barley, flavoring the grain with apple and cherry wood smoke, then aging with a progressive series of hand toasted wood chips in used bourbon barrels. All of our fine spirits are available for tasting and purchase at the distillery. We look forward to seeing you.

My friend and I were just happy that we found this distillery as cell service was sketchy and I didn't have the address to put into my car's GPS. You have to ring to be admitted and we bellied right up to the tasting bar...MoreThank you for visiting and taking the time to review. Happy to know you enjoyed your experience and feel your pain about cell (lack of) service. We're working on it!

This is a newer winery located near many other wineries on the RT522/RT211 trail. No menu, but they have a selection of cheese, crackers, snacks, drinks, etc. Wonderful deck off the back to sit and enjoy the view. Beautiful mountain, pond and farm views. They are also a working farm and I believe they offer farm tours - not sure if those need to be arranged ahead of time as we did not go back to the farm.

Old Rag Mountain Hike

Reviewed By GoAlong2 - Seattle, Washington

We hiked this trail with a group of friends and enjoyed our walk through the forest and enjoyed the variety of trees that changed as we gained elevation. At the end of the trail we were rewarded with a short scramble on giant well worn rocks to spectacular views of the valley and the mountains along the ridge.

At the beginning of the trail is a box containing a booklet with points of interest along the hike. I thought that the information enhanced the hike with some history (like the copper mine along the trail) and nature notes. And yes, the views at the summit are spectacular!

We visit friends in the Washington area once or twice a year, and we never miss a trip to Ballard's. And,we never leave without a purchase by one or two in our party. This last time it was a gorgeous 4by6 rug designed by a local artist. As always we were tempted by the exquisite French table linens, the China, lotions and potions, candles and so much more. There are always new local artists in the downstair gallery, A favorite of ours, Jeanne Devas.was showing her delightful, quirky new sculptures. Ballard's is a must visit in this charming town. Don't miss it!

This was our first visit to this microbrewery. We sampled 3 beers and discussed wild yeast collection with one of the brewers. Clearly these young craftsmen are passionate about their work and it shows in the final product. Will be returning in the future.

Lake Moomaw

There's something for everyone at Lake Moomaw, from hiking and swimming to fishing.

Reviewed By Liz S - Ashburn, Virginia

We visited Lake Moomaw through Bolar Mountain Recreation Area. The lake was fairly quiet when we visited during an early June weekend. I was surprised at how chilly the nights got but we were prepared. We loved it so much we're going back in a few weeks.

You can rent kayaks and canoes on the lake by the Marina at Bolar Mountain. The lake is home to great fishing, bird watching, sunsets, and being alone with nature. We loved swimming in the lake but don't forget your water shoes! There are some sharp rocks on the bottom.
