A quiet, inexpensive attraction on the coast at Sperlonga. Very much enjoyed a visit here, and the walk along the beach to get there. A must-see when visiting the area.

Porto di Sperlonga

The first dock in Sperlonga was built to meet the needs of local fishermen and boaters. Over the years the tourist and recreational function has become prevalent, thanks to the quality of the marine waters, the beauty of the coast (which includes the Regional Park of the Ulysses Riviera) and the proximity of the Pontine islands. A breakwater pier, which extends for 200 m, and a jetty with a curvilinear extension delimit two basins separated by a central arm, with a total surface of 19,000 m2. Two hydraulic connections between the basins and the supply of fresh water, coming from the nearby springs, ensure an effective water recirculation in the two basins. Traits of the docks are reserved for professional fishermen, boats of the Coast Guard and the mooring of boats in transit. The docks and floating docks, the latter paved in wooden planks, are equipped with turrets for the distribution of electricity, drinking water and washing water, to service the parked boats.

Blue Flag in Sperlonga A "simple" BLUE flag, however, is indicative of a huge wealth. One of these wonders on the "LIDO TRE CONCHIGLIE" of SPERLONGA, a splendid village that can give a UNICO panorama: the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Lazio Hills, fill in the eyes of the visitors.

We came with 6 adults and 4 kids, ages 3-10. We didn’t know where we were going or what to expect. 3 Adults and the kids drove from Sperlonga center and parked 300m (closest parking to the restaurant) and the other 3 adults walked along the beach. The adults that walked were happy to get the exercise, the rest of us managed from the parking area. There is a long wooden boardwalk that leads you to the restaurant and we bought a stroller along, which was good for the 3 year old. When we arrived the place was full, but they immediately put together a table for us with tables and chairs they had stored in the back of the dining area. There was a wonderful refreshing breeze, which was a welcome change from the heat of the beach strip in the center. We ended up here because we wanted to do something different, and found this place under “things to do”. It is much much more than that. We had the best meal of our trip here. The food and service was above and beyond what we were expecting. We read some reviews before coming, but didn’t expect the quality of food that came out of the kitchen or the service that accompanied. We had a fresh salmon appetizer special that was amazing. We also had the pomodoro sauce (both kids and adults were smiling), clam sauté, special fish pasta, big salad with tuna, caprese, prosciutto and melon, and more! Everything was done with perfection. A hail storm came through as we were finishing up. The kids hid under the table and laughed and had so much fun. The adults ordered another bottle of wine to get us through the storm. We wish we had found this spot on our first day as we would have been there daily. We really loved Sperlonga, but would go back solely for this amazing experience...Missing it now as we sit in CT!

This is a small museum but very enjoyable. The main attraction is Emperor Tiberius' grotto and remains of his villa. You need to do this with a tour guide who can explain the history of Tiberius and bring this all to life. We loved the stories of his gladiators fighting alligators in the ponds near the grotto. The indoor part of the museum houses some of the statues found during excavation works and are marvellous. You will only need an hour or so to visit but it is well worth it.

We were treated beautifully by the people that run this beach club. The setting was beautiful and the food in the restaurant was some of the best we had whilst in Sperlonga. My wife’s antipasto di mare was excellent-my frittura mista the best I’ve had in Italy and they were even able to offer my daughter a beautiful ravioli dish as she is not a big fan of fish! Highly recommend!
