Ranked #3 in Solapur when I checked. But, this place is 70km away from the city of Solapur.
You should be careful with the location.
Also, when I visited on Saturday in July, there was a long queue and it was not moving.
You need to be prepared for the trip and the wait there.

Bhuikot Fort

Reviewed By KabraRamesh - Nashik, India

Interesting facts about a city I visited for the first time.
During our recent visit to Pandharpur we also visited the city of Solapur at a distance of 65 kms. I had only known Solapur as being famous for cotton chaddars and towels. That it has a rich history associated with it came as a surprise to me. Solapur at different times in history has been ruled by Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadavas, Kalchuris & Bahamani dynasties respectively. It's population is 15 lacs. Being close to Karnataka & Andhra (now Telengana) borders, in addition to Maratha it also has the cultural influence of both these states. Besides textiles, Solapur district is a major producer of sugar & beedi.
Solapur has a fort known as Bhuikot fort ( bhui means land and kot means fort - as this fort was built on land as against the other forts in Maharashtra built on hills !!). It was built in 1656 ( exactly 300 years before my birth !!! ) by Adil Shah. The fort later came under Maratha control. There is a well laid out garden inside the fort and it is enjoyable climbing the ramparts of the fort and getting a view of the surroundings. The fort also has an outer wall with a moat running all around. There are ruins of a Hindu temple that in its hey days may have been a large impressive structure. A mosque & dargah are also located within the premises. Two large cannons placed strategically in the garden welcome you as you enter the fort premises. It is now under ASI and there is an entry fee of Rs 15. From the top of the fort one gets a beautiful view of the Siddeshwar temple complex and the lake around it. More about the temple in my next post.
A visit to the fort was followed by a visit to Kamat restaurant that serves yummy South Indian snacks. Solapur is also an important railway junction and it was a pleasant surprise to find the platforms spic & span!! The overnight train to Mumbai took

Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary

Reviewed By bdraj - Bengaluru, India

The sanctuary is 22 Kms from Solapur. The last few Kms road is pretty bad....not maintained for years. Entrance fee for Two persons + car was Rs.160. You need immense luck and patience to sight the Great Indian Bustard ( Maldhok in Hindi). We spent a few hours in the morning and again between 4:00 PM and 6:30PM in the afternoon but no luck. We were shocked to learn there are only 4 Birds in the sanctuary now reduced from 14 in 2010. ( 41 in 1991) The decline as per the forest warden is due to a multiplicity of causes least of which was human in nature. The Birds were sighted just a day before we went as per the forest warden who spends the entire day inside a small circular hut with 10 inch slot cut out around the wall circumference for sighting the birds. The visitors are not allowed to move around anywhere else inside the sanctuary and must sit inside the hut and try their Luck. While our luck with GIB was bad, as a consolation we sighted a pair of Wolves come quite close to the hut ( about 100 -120 mtrs) apart from other varieties of Birds like Harrier Eagle, Collared Dove, the small Stone chat, Lapwigs,Babblers, etc
The foresters advise at least 2-3 days of continuous visits to the sanctuary to increase the chances of sighting the Maldhok,,,the Great Indian Bustard, August apparently is a good time to sight them as it is the breeding season and the males put up long drawn mating displays in the sanctuary thus increasing the sighting chances.
