Halkata

Reviewed By TsarShishman - Sofia, Bulgaria

A legendary place in the mountain with an amazing view to the city. Once it was all sea, the legend says, and the ships were using Halkata like a port... If you continue forwards on the top of the mountain you can congratulate yourself with the famous homemade bread with cheese in the old Furna.

Hadji Dimitar Museum-House

Reviewed By PBTravelstheWorld - Woodinville, United States

Birthplace and home to Hadji Dimitar the leading revolutionary against the Ottoman rule during the 19th century in the struggles for an independent Bulgaria. He was born in this two story house and grew up here in Silven. Besides the architecture the house has some period furnishings and a museum to Hadji Dimitar's life. There are photos and story boards (some are in English as well as Bulgarian) in a couple of the upstairs rooms.

The Old Elm

The Old Elm in Sliven is the European Tree of the Year 2014. It's more than 1100 years old but still blossoming every year. It's one of the symbols of the town of Sliven.

Reviewed By danielfrankie - Tsarevo, Bulgaria

The tree is dying... you should take a look at it as its still there. Once upon a time, there was a huge forest of such trees, now its just this last one. Kudos to the people of the city which made it a meeting point and a historical treasure.

Regional Historical Museum

Reviewed By PBTravelstheWorld - Woodinville, United States

Regional museum that has a very large collection of Thracian gold, metal, and stone artifacts. Most item descriptions are in both Bulgarian and English. There are also artifacts from the Greek period and pottery and glass pieces too. Proto-Thracian items are also in the collection. Top floor has a exhibit on local digs and methods. Very traditional older presentation, but the artifacts are top notch certainly worth a visit!
