Signal Point is part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Point and is located atop Walden Ridge (the town on top of the mountain is Signal Mountain, the mountain itself is actually called Walden Ridge). This area was controlled by the Union troops during the siege of Chattanooga in the fall of 1863. It was used for communication purposes and to observe the movements of the Confederate army. A sign at the site details the codes that were used to convey the various messages.
The site is easy to find and is just a few minutes off Taft Highway. There are multiple signs in the area. You arrive at a small parking lot and a short walk down from that leads you to the overlook. A covered pavilion with a picnic table is down by the overlook. There is a great view of the Tennessee River below and Racoon Mountain is directly across. Lookout Mountain is off in the distance to the left.
There are multiple trails in the area and it even connects to the Cumberland Trail. I haven't been on any of these yet but I look forward to doing so in the future. There are also restrooms available by the parking area.
Signal Point is a great place to start a hiking adventure or just to get a great view of the Tennessee River and the surrounding mountains.

Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

This was a last minute idea as we spent the night in Chattanooga the night before. I read online and the reviews were fantastic so my 10 year old son and I gave it a try. We LOVED it! I'm not even a fan of small spaces (elevators sometimes make me feel jittery) but I was able to do the Canyon Crawl. At first when she pointed where we had to go, I have to say I was a bit nervous....but by the end of our hike I was going head first into holes you were barely able to squeeze into. Scarlett, our guide, was very informative, friendly and knowledgeable. Go give this a try! It's SO worth it! Also -where old clothing - you are gonna get dirty!!

This is a little gem of a museum, some beautiful and very rare cars and motorbikes. If you love vehicles this is not to be missed and well worth the trip.
Fantastic experience, just one hour guided tour and FREE!
Unbelievable seeing these guys also making/repairing wooden-spoked wheels.

We come here often because it's so close to us, but honestly it's worth it even if it were 10 miles away. All of the apples in the "bags" are perfect and great tasting. Our favorite is the Jonagolds. Cider is fresh and also delicious. Our only place now for apples in season!

Get here early to have a parking space in the lot off Ohio St. The trails are marked pretty well for the most part and then it's kind of hit or miss.
The creek was pretty low/dry when we visited and the falls from the reservoir weren't flowing. The lake itself was so overgrown that it could be considered a pond now.
Lots of hiking trails that go from moderate to strenuous if you really want to make a full day of it.
Worth the visit.

I have been here many times. It takes place every Friday night year round. Bluegrass, gospel, and country music performed by multiple groups. Always different. Sometimes a little dancing happens on stage, sometimes pretty good talent, sometimes not but it's free or you can make a donation. We always take any out of town guests we have because it makes for a perfect evening to drive up the mountain and experience some Tennessee roots.

Easy pedestrian access from one side of the Tennessee River to the other. Lots of local coffee and ice cream shops, boutiques, and parks on the North end of the bridge, and downtown on the South side of the bridge.

This is an amazing playground! Coolest playground ever!!! It is located on top of Signal Mountain right where it crosses into Walden. It is behind the old Walden courthouse and is easy to miss so make sure you know where you are going. Small parking lot and can get full so be aware of that.
Huge wooden playground all in a pumpkin/Halloween theme. Giant spiders and snakes made from tires and giant pumpkins. Has a smaller kid area that is fenced off which is cool and a huge big kid area. Even has woods behind it that kids like to play in.
Has a giant slide that is like 3 stories tall or something like that. You will love it! The best part is it is shaded as its up in the woods! So it stays cooler than most playgrounds in the summer and its up on the mountain so that helps too.
If you visit this playground stop in and visit the Signal Mountain Cookie Lady on the way and it becomes a super fun outing! It has bathrooms and a picnic shelter you can rent for parties and picnic tables. The only problem with the shelter is it is not like next to the playground so you can't be in the shelter and see the playground. I attended a party there once and it was still fun though.
