The park is the site of a historic Herschell-Spillman carousel.

We visited Shelby Park to see the classic and historic carousel. Since we were from out of town, Tommy let us in to see the carousel before the official opening time. What a treat!! The carousel was beautiful, excellently restored and maintained. Tommy, himself a carousel buff, told us the history of the carousel. He was very cordial and we appreciated his friendliness. A real highlight of our trip to North Carolina. We had a picnic in the perk.

Don Gibson Theater

We saw 70s/80s country music/broadway star Gary Morris at this renovated movie theater. It was a great venue for a man, his guitars and his amazing vocal range. There are no bad seats in the house and those seats are comfortable. There is a bar, although no food and drink in the actual theater.

It was a rainy, dreary day when we visited but it was clear that the grounds were beautiful. The 2 ladies that were providing the tastings were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Our friends (who are the wine drinkers) enjoyed the tasting and purchased 3 bottles. Owl's Eye also had beer options, so I was able to have a drink also.

Sunset Drive-In Theatre

My people and I drove an hour to visit and were not disappointed! It's a dying breed of theater venues and it was fun to park out in the field under the stars and watch the movie. There are some speakers outside but it's kind of hard to hear so tuning into the radio station in the car or pulling it up on a phone is a better option. There are bathrooms and a snack bar and it was $12 per car. All in all, a great evening and something I am definitely going to do again!

It's housed in Shelby's old post office, so it's just a beautiful building to visit. They change the exhibits often, and feature local artists. They have a nice gift shop where you can take home a lovely bit of local art too. Best thing, the Artomatic machine. It's a converted cigarette machine where you can buy a small artistic treasure for $5.

This is the best golf course in Cleveland County. Greens are in good shape and very fast. The course is always in good shape and has a good variety of holes. The course is a good challenge for the average golfer without being overwhelming. Some holes are really tough and tight others are pretty wide open. Fun to play and rates are never more than $40

Keeter Stadium

This is Americana at it's finest! This high school field has been the permanent host of the American Legion World Series (baseball) for about 6 years, and has been upgraded for the players and the patrons every year (with no end in sight!). ESPN adds more live broadcasts of the games every year, and with sellout crowds (8000+) every game (15 games in 8 days) it's an event for baseball fans that is not to be missed. Bucket list item! The field is top notch, and the food vendors highlight food from the South. The military is omnipresent with displays and equipment, and the respect level from everyone who shows up is tangible. Just go. You'll want to return again and again!

My husband gave me this balloon ride as a birthday gift and I was very hesitant but it turned out to be the most peaceful serene experience I have ever had. I would highly recommend anyone to spend the money to do this. We both thoroughly enjoyed and will take another ride in the winter. Glen the owner is very experienced and very thorough throughout the trip. His video and pics afterward made my birthday so special.
