Kenai Fjords National Park

Reviewed By Canyonskier - Reno, Nevada

As with any fjord cruise you will definitely see glaciers coming down into the water. We were lucky and saw humpback whales, sealions, orcas, otters, and lots of birds. Probably the only wildlife they can guarantee are the sealions and birds. The scenery is outstanding. Most of the park can be seen only by boat.

Holgate Glacier

The tour I went on with Kenai Fjords stopped at this glacier. It was so quite there it was a little weird. When parts of the ice would break off it sounded so loud, even when it crashed into the water. It was almost like a gunshot. It was very large and so beautiful.

Alaska SeaLife Center

An education and research-focused aquarium offering underwater views of Alaskan marine animals.

This little Sea Life Centre is a great place to visit at the end of a cruise into Alaska. It’s very informative and has a lot of interactive little displays. The puffins are super cute and the scuba divers under water cleaning the tanks are hilarious and we’re a real hit with he children. The cheeky harbour seals are also great fun to watch frolicking!

The digital theatre has a great deal of information regarding conservation and our responsibility to the planet.

Well worth the visit. Big and little kids alike will love it!

Seward Boat Harbor

A low cost highly enjoyable experience for is to walk the marina. An Otter playing, people shaping up their boats, fisherman cleaning their catch, tour boats loading. All this under the long summer days. But the best photo opportunity came with the moon rising amongst the pristine snow capped peaks.

Waterfront Park

Reviewed By Maurene_K - Dover, New Hampshire

We had upgraded our Holland America cruise on the Noordam to include a 10-hour daytrip that included a 6-hour cruise with lunch aboard a 95-foot Kenai Fjords Tours ship Glacier Explorer for a tour of Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park.

We had some time beforehand to explore the waterfront area. Seward Waterfront Park was located between the Seward Boat Harbor and the Alaska SeaLife Center. It had tent and RV camping, a small beach, a small playground and picnic areas. There was a trail lined with historic landmarks.

The snow-dusted Chugach Mountains served as a backdrop on both sides of the bay.

We wished that we had more time here.

We rate Seward Waterfront Park at 4.50.

Bear Glacier

Reviewed By Vermonters210 - Bennington, Vermont

We saw Bear Glacier on our boat tour to Northwestern Glacier. It is on the east side of Kenai Fjords National Park just outside of Resurrection Bay on the way to the Aialik Peninsula. You can see that this glacier is the combination of at least two glaciers because of the dark moraines that slice down its ice field. The captain of our boat told us that there is a fairly large fresh water lake in front of Bear Glacier now protected by the ice field in front of it. My wife recognized it immediately - it looked exactly like the photo she had seen in her Roadside Geology of Alaska book. Massive and beautiful - and only to be seen from the water.

Mt. Marathon

Reviewed By Globetrotter10K - New York City, New York

Every July 4 hundreds of men, women and youths race up and down Mt. Marathon. Why? Because it's there. Perhaps 50 or 60 years ago I might have managed a run up and down this mountain, but now at an advanced age the best way for me to participate in the race is by watching it from the streets at the base of the mountain. It is even possible to watch the race on local TV, where camera coverage by drones can show runners' slips, stumbles and grimaces--and their triumphant smiles as they cross the finish line.

In case you get hungry watching all the runners burning up so many calories, there are lots of restaurants, food trucks and food stands where you can grab a bite. The race is run in groups (youths, women, men), so if you want to watch the entire event it takes place over a period of about 4-5 hours. Starting times are posted so if you can choose which group or groups you want to watch.

If you are in or near Seward on July 4, don't miss the Mt. Marathon races.

I used Millers Landing to book our Hotel ( Hotel 360 ) also booking two days of Combo Fishing. Driving to the END of the Road as directions were spot on. It was as I had it in my mind ----- an Alaska business, Fishing Charters, Campgrounds, RV spots, etc. Hustle and bustle of employees preparing for the day. Our fishing trips were good and went well. We caught a true Combo of fish, now of which is in our freezer at home to enjoy. It was as expected for me. I want to fish some more.
