Sérres (Greek: Σέρρες) is a city in Macedonia, Greece, capital of the Serres regional unit and second largest city in the region of Central Macedonia, after Thessaloniki. Serres is one of the administrative and economic centers of Northern Greece. The city is situated in a fertile plain at an elevation of about 70 metres (230 feet), some 24 kilometres (15 miles) northeast of the Strymon river and 69 km (43 mi) north-east of Thessaloniki, respectively. Serres' official municipal population was 76,817 in 2011 with the total number of people living in the city and its immediate surroundings estimated at around 100,000. The city is home to the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greek: Τ.Ε.Φ.Α.Α. Σερρών) and the Technological Educational Institute of Central Macedonia (Greek: ΤΕΙ Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας), composed of the School of Technological Applications, the School of Management and Finance and the School of Graphic Arts and Design, with at least 10,000 Greek and international students.

Such a beautiful experience.. the resident soldiers were all very polite and offered us a long tour of the site along with a very interesting historical narration. You start from the hillside peak overlooking the Greek-Bulgarian borders and Strymonas river, then you can take a close look to the various firearms and defending mechanisms used in the battles during WW2 and finally you visit the inside of the fort, the actual Catacombs and have the chance to know more about how the soldiers lived inside this massive construction that was approx 6.3km long. A useful tip: its a very nice gesture to bring something along for the soldiers, such as sweets etc.

If you visit Kerkini, it is worth visiting the old railway station of Vyroneia. In the forest and right next to the lake, it offers not just a great place to eat but a place to relax and sense history.

It was great fun and a wonderful experience! The facilities are great!! They even have an actor in some rooms!! (I won't tell more you should find out for yourself). The staff is very helpful and friendly!! Overall it was a great experience!

With a range of four great beers with the Voreia label (translating as 'north' and reflecting its northern Greek heritage), this little place is on its way to a successful future. Already accredited an award from the Belgians for its amazingly delicious porter (6%) with chocolate and caramel aromas, it's bound to clock up the accolades. There is also a very drinkable fresh and flavourful Pils (5%), IPA (7%) and white Wit beer (7%) with hints of corriander and orange. The beers are served in local outlets and across Greece with some exports to centres such as London. A modern installation and a friendly team, Siris is driven by its pefectionist leader Yiannis, who we were thrilled to meet on our recent visit (he being an on-line bridge partner from one of our walking group). Visits are impromtu but beer lovers are bound to be given a great welcome. We all loved the visit and the beers and left happy carrying our purchases. Thank you Yiannis.

Έχοντας εμπειρία από αναλογες δομές σε άλλες πόλεις μπορώ να πω πως οι δημιουργοί του έχουν κάνει πολύ καλή δουλειά! Τα δωμάτια είναι άριστα κατασκευασμενα ενώ ο περιορισμένος προϋπολογισμός (που είναι εμφανης) δεν στερει κάτι από τη χαρά του παιχνιδιού. Το συνιστώ σε παρέες άνω των 15 ετών. Οι μικρότερες ηλικίες δεν θα το εκτιμήσουν όσο του αξίζει.
