The 10 Best Things to Do in Secunderabad, India

October 11, 2017 Major Galusha

Secunderabad ( listen (help·info), also spelled sometimes as Sikandar-a-bad) is the twin city of Hyderabad located in the Indian state of Telangana. Named after Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, Secunderabad was founded in 1806 as a British cantonment. Although Hyderabad and Secunderabad are together referred to as the twin cities, they have both different histories and cultures, with Secunderabad having developed directly under British rule until 1948 and Hyderabad as the capital of the Nizams' princely state of Hyderabad.

Ujjaini Mahakali Temple

Reviewed By vlsvas - Secunderabad, India

Ujjaini Mahakali Temple is located at General Bazaar, Secunderabad and this is most popular for bonalu festival which also called as Ashada Jathara and Lashkar. This is temple located in narrow roads and does not have widen premises, Telangana Government announced that it will expand the temple premises.
During Bonalu Festival, women carry Bonam (a pot with jiggery, rice, milk and curd which is covered with neem leaves and with a diya placed on it.) over their heads and walk towards the temple.
The first Sunday of the month of Ashada, marks the beginning of Ghatothsavam. It is a fifteen day festival in which a ghatam, decorated with flowers goes to every house along with a procession. At the end of the fifteenth day, Kolupu Pothraju Bali is celebrated in which the head of a buffalo is cut in one stroke. But, this practice of animal sacrifice has been prohibited for the last 25 years.
One of the most interesting festivals celebrated is Rangam in which an unmarried woman, standing on a pot prays to the Goddess and is supposedly responded to by the mother Goddess who proclaims the good events which will take place in her life.
Very happy to visit the temple to blessed by Maa Mahankali and more happy to share my experience by Tripadvisor. At this place we can get darshan of Maa and can not spend more time as there is no open/widen area.

It was a memorable experience visting malikarjuna temple. Do not opt for Bus travel as it is a bumpy way, so best way is to go by your own car or book a cab for a day or two.
You will get a detailed darshan and abhishek if you take 1000 rs ticket / couple and of course go with the help of guys help like agents because the temple premise is bit confusing and so the way to main temple block.
There are few more things to explore like Rope way to Pataal Ganga, Speed boat, Shikharam Temple 9on the way to temple), Ganapati temple and a Tribal Museum.

The main attraction of the museum is a clock bell which was built in that days that works perfectly till now. The bell has an abillity for every hour a small boy shaped doll comes out of the door which located in the clock and hits bell based on the hour. If it is 3'o clock then the bell was hit by 3 times.
