Grotta del Soffio

You have to take one of the small boats from the port to visit this cave and the nearby caves (you cannot go by yourself unless you are a trained sailor man/woman).
Don't be scared: to visit this particular cave you have to freedive briefly. It's just a second and anyone can do it!

The southernmost part of Puglia is astonishing due to its caves and cliffs. Swimming or boating are the best ways to get in the caves and to be captured by their beauty.

Fiordo del Ciolo

We stopped here for a coffee on a cycle tour but we had not realised the wonderful scenery on offer. With stepps giving access to the water level on both sides of the ravine there are wonderful photo opportunities. There is also a cliff walk for those with a head for heights. We did not use the restaurant but as settings go this would be hard to beat.

Basilica Santuario di Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae

This is the place where you finally run of land. Leucca is where the Adriatic and Mediterranean meet. The vantage point from the church and lighthouse punctuates the coastline receding in both directions. No, there is no dividing line, only the vast expanse of the sea. For us, it marks the end of our grand tour.

The lighthouse is behind a high fence and barbed wire at the tip of the heel of Italy's boot. There is a nice view from either side ofv the fence surrounding the lighthouse.

Ville Di Santa Maria Di Leuca

Reviewed By YTCHENG - Hong Kong, China

Famous for the iconic lighthouse with its height of 47 metres high and position at 102 metres above sea level, it is the second most important lighthouse in Italy after Genova. Next to the light house is the large Santuary (Basilica) and the De Finibus Terrae (End of the Land) built to commemorate the passage of St. Peter here during his travel to Italy. Furthermore, if you have sufficient time in the area, you can take a boatride along the rocky coast to explore the beautiful caved coastline in Santa Maria di leuca. there are also quite a number of nice seafood restaurants at the foothill which are recommended for tourists after their visits/excursions.

Punta Ristola

A bit of scrubland, a partial fence, large flag pole with the Italian tricolore, a bronze statue of Padre Pio (he of the stigmata if you believe that sort of thing), rocky outcrop. 15 mins is more than enough. Given what else Puglia has to offer, only go if you are time rich. Or not.

Nice church, on the narrow streets of Santa Maria di Leuca. Worth a visit. We entered the church at 9 pm, was dark outside, the church was empty, very nice feeling. :)
