We had an excellent tasting at this winery with Robin taking us through a number of his wines. He was very down to earth and quite entertaining and I thought the wines were outstanding quality and value for money. In particular the Parola’s Limited Release Shiraz & Durif are worth trying while the Smithy’s Blend Cleanskins are also really good value. If you are visiting this region I would highly recommend that you have this winery on your itinerary.

My wife and I visited Gooramadda Olives this morning based on a recommendation. Well it exceeded all our expectations. We spent over an hour there... tasting, learning, talking, and enjoying, with never any pressure to buy anything (mind you, we're happy that we DID buy things when we were there!). And we were certainly not rushed. The quality of the produce was fantastic (many world-class trophies & medals on the wall), and such a great variety & range! We certainly recommend visiting Gooramadda Olives, ***you will not be disappointed***. Even if you're not sure about olives, drop in and you'll be surprised at how wonderful, versatile and tasty this fruit can be. And our host Rob, had great recommendations about how olives can be used with food, how to have execute a "tree-change" in you life, and even about other places to see and eat in the area. My white-hat and I will be back!

That's the advice I was given - for taste, service and hospitality. We were warmly welcomed, invited to take a look around the cellar, and then offered a tasting. We were quite selective with what we wanted to taste, conscious that we couldn't actually taste everything on their extensive list. However, they are very happy to share their knowledge and passion, through the tasting experience and they worked with our preferences to guide us through the list. The wines were good and the fortifieds were lovely - it was very nice to be offered the full range of fortified wines, appreciating the differences was a nice experience. I wish we'd coincided our visit with lunch as the platters on offer looked very appealing. We thoroughly enjoyed this visit.

Scion Wine

Scion is a producer of artisan wines, handcrafted from vine to bottle. Our vision is to produce premium wines guided by the creative and modern interpretation of traditional Rutherglen varietals. We grow and handcraft wines in small batches – from aromatic whites to elegant reds and delicate dessert wines. Located just 2km south of Rutherglen on our estate vineyard, Scion’s cellar door is nestled in the natural landscape among grey box gums. Visit to taste our focused range of artisan wines, or BYO picnic to enjoy with a glass overlooking the countryside and working winery. A sustainable future underscores our vision, from the use of solar power to run our winery and cellar door, to a small cluster of beehives enhancing biodiversity on our farm.

I didn't think how much time and effort goes in to producing a wine. We see the end result but having visited Scion Wine my wife and I experienced great wines and a great family story. Our host clearly displayed her passion for her wines and gave my wife and I detailed backgrounds on not only the wines we were tasting (which were all fantastic) but the history of the property, her partner who went from Graphic Design into wine-making. It is a small family operated winery but so much thought has gone into each and every wine they produce. That makes the taste experience so much more enjoyable! If you're looking for a totally different experience in wine's then Scion is the place to go. PS: They have a Electric vehicle charging station to boot and they go off the grid on Sunday's. Loved this experience! (There is a $10 pp wine tasting fee but free if you purchase 3 x bottles of wine per person - which we easily accomplished!)
